“Old soviet style hotel, a little dark and depressing.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2011

I have stayed here twice as it offers the best price for location. Moscow is stupidly expensive for hotels. As you would expect from an old soviet style hotel everything is a little faded and dark.

The rooms are a good size but during my second trip found sleeping difficult because of the noise of people going down the corridor. Breakfast was average but the staff were all very attentive.

“Great location, very good room but noise from gentlemen's club next door!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2011

This is a very nice hotel with a very good, clean and comfortable room Not great seating in lobby, but nice lobby/bar in next room that is comfortable and the breakfast room is lovely with music playing - very relaxing. The location of the Budapest is very good - easy walking to Red Square and the Kremlin as well as the metro, so you can get anywhere. Friendly reception. Definitely recommended (but maybe see if they can get the club next door to stop the music before 4:00 a.m.)

“Hotel Budapest is not a bad choice in Moscow”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

My wife and I spent four nights in the Hotel Budapest during the month of September. The hotel location is a comfortable 15 minute walk from Red Square and is quite centrally located. The hotel’s interior is a little threadbare, but clean and comfortable. Wifi was quite expensive at the rate of 700 Rubles ($28) for 24 hours, which is an irritation, but is likely par for the course in Moscow. My wife originally booked the Hotel Budapest with the objective of avoiding a hotel with loads of American tourists. This hotel’s clientele all seemed to be either Russian or from other European countries, with few North American guests. All of the service staff spoke English and were very friendly. The hotel’s concierge was helpful in arranging for a private taxi pick-up at the airport, which is very important given the one to two hour commute from the airport to downtown.

“Nice find in the center of the city”

The hotel is in a great location - just a short walk from Red Square. On a quiet side street, and is an old charming building. The room was spacious with the very high ceilings, nicely furnished, and very clean. The air conditioner is moderately effective, but did enough to make our room comfortable. The wireless was at an additional cost, and was very expensive....but there are places in the area to pick up free wireless with lunch or coffee. The staff are wonderful - and there is always an English speaking person at the front desk. I would highly recommend this as a moderately priced hotel in a very expensive city.

“Excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

The hotel has a wonderful location, just over five minutes from the Bolshoi and under fifteen from Red Square. Our room was large and very comfortable and breakfast was excellent. The staff were efficient and those at reception spoke reasonable English and were very helpful. Based on some on-line searches it seemed reasonable value for money, although Moscow is not a cheap city. But beware the minibar which is rather overpriced.

Interestingly there is a plaque on the wall saying that Lenin visited the building - not sure why! Should you think you heard a horse during the night you probably did. Apparently they sometimes exercise horses from the Moscow State Circus when things are quiet!

We would certainly use the hotel again.
