I kind of erred in staying here as I thought it was a hotel. It resembles much more a hostel. It is on the 4th floor of a walk-up, very high floors. It reminded me of climbing deep metro stairs during an escalator failure. The rooms are very small and cramped and not laid out well. There is no wardrobe or chest of drawers, so you essentially have no choice but to dress from your suitcases sitting on the floor (in the way because the room is so small). There were 4 hooks on the wall by the door, so you could hang up some trousers or shirts. The shared bath were very clean and conveniently located.

The hotel is conveniently located to Red Square, the Kremlin and other popular sites. My hotels.com reservation stated that the price I paid included breakfast, but the staff insisted it didn't. Hotels.com advised me that they messaged the hotel advising them it did, but still the staff refused, Anyway, they relented and gave me a cup of coffee each of the two mornings that I stayed there. No harm done. Frankly breakfast is not that important to me, but the experience just appeared disorganized to me. A young man who works there was extraordinarily helpful and personable. Very friendly nice guy and one of a small number of Russians that I can say I met on my trip. He truly made an impression and provided great service.

This is not my type of accommodation. I am not snobby, but honestly, I paid $120 per night here and after my stay, for $200 per night I checked into a very luxurious hotel on Red Square and it had several elevators, full staff and great/professional service, much larger rooms, luxurious breakfast included, and even a fitness center and indoor pool included (didn't get to use the pool). However, because of the great service of the young man at the desk at the Petrovka, I would recommend it to friends but I would make sure they understood that it's more like a hostel than a hotel.
