I am frequent visitor to Moscow. I have stayed at a number of the fancy hotels in Moscow, (the Lotte, Park Hyatt, to name a few) but I prefer this place. A few reasons
- Location
The location cannot be beat. It is literally 5 minutes from the Polyanka Metro stop, and a quick hop to Paveletsakaya, easy access to the ring road. Across the street is the Hotel President, which is a bastian of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and hosts overseas dignitaries. The area of Polyanka is a government/office area. Arround you is the Ministry of Health offices.
The Kremlin in nearby. Down the street is a supermarket.
Compare this withe one of the hotels that used to be part of the Olympics, essentially in the middle of nowhere.
-Service
While this is not a 5 star luxury property (and certainly does not advertise itself a such), I appreciate the extra help the hotel went to get me taxi, provide directions, and sometimes fetching a car. i have also utilized the laundry services (prompt).
-Security
I liked the visible security in the hallways. Also at night, Polyanka is very safe area.
If you are looking for a nice base to visit Moscow, this place is perfect. Those that desire extra amenities, best look elsewhere.
Things to Note:
-The internet is not free (except in the lobby). Buy Beeline internet cards. Reasonable speed. Around 500 RUB a day.
-Breakfast is ok, it never changes, but is generally acceptable
-While the lobby is a little tired, the rooms were redone a few years back. I found the bathroom odd, but its ok. Long bathtub, no shower stall. A little short on the bath products. I constantly have to ask/bring my own
-The hotel (my suspicion) is owned by someone from Kazakhstan. The front desk has the time from Brussels (the Redizor Group?), Moscow (duh) and Astana. Also the hotel TV systems feature a few Kazakh tv stations.
