“Would not stay again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

We stayed at this hotel when we first arrived in Romania, and then 12 days later ofter our self driving trip around the country.

I would not stay again for a number of reasons. There were a number of good aspects but the problems far outweighed them. First the good points. The hotel was close to the airport and had a shuttle bus. The staff were also willing to store two suitcases until we returned. The hotel also had free internet. However the room was only average- the bed had a very 'saggy' mattress and we had sore backs next morning. The air conditioner did not work well and the room was very hot. Both rooms we booked had only one towel and it took a long while for the second one to be delivered when we complained. However, the main problem was with the restaurant and as there are no other restaurants nearby, it is necessary to eat at the hotel restaurant if a long taxi ride is to be avoided. The food at the restaurant was OK although nothing special. The meals were cold by the time they arrived. We asked if it was possible to get a glass of wine each with dinner. The waiter said 'yes', asked 'if we wanted red or white' and then proceeded to pour two glasses of an ordinary wine. Another hour and a half passed and no more wine was offered. When we asked for the bill, the cost of the wine was more than triple any other bottle (not glass) of wine we had ordered in Romania. When we questioned this, the waiter said that it was necessary to give us a bottle as single glasses were not available. He was not able to produce the remainder of the bottle of wine In hindsight, we should have asked for the menu before ordering the wine but in other places it has not been a problem and I objected to being put into a position where we either risk an unpleasant situation, or acquiesce. I may have been wrong, but my impression was that some sort of malfeasance was involved either on his own behalf or on behalf of the hotel. For a below average meal, prices were similar to a good restaurant in Australia. This is very unusual for Romania, and we had marvelled about how inexpensive prices were every where else. I tried to talk to the receptionist the next morning about our experience but 'she did not want to know' and brushed off our concerns.

I think that you will see from my other hotel reviews that I do not complain often and this was the only time I have had such a problem.

“Surprisingly quiet, very convenient to airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2011

We used this hotel so we'd be close to the airport. The surprise was that we never heard noise from a plane, and in fact slept quite well here. The staff was friendly and helpful. Free wifi, and the restaurant was decent and open 24 hours. Also free shuttle to airport. They said every half hour, but every time we asked it was immediate. The wired wifi was free and they had a cable for it. They also include a free bottle of water, which is good since we don't like to even brush our teeth with foreign water.

The only thing we had go wrong is our first night the room was too hot; the AC didn't work so well. The second day we changed rooms and it was nice and cool the rest of our trip.

A taxi to Bucharest from here (an HONEST taxi which is the only kind the hotel calls!) was under 20 lei, about $6 US.

“Dont go to city if your looking for airport hotel, this is good, actually I was well supprised.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2011

Ipaid 88 euro for a night in executive room,

I was traveling on business anyway, and decided on staying at airport and getting connecting flight in morning, since bucharest airport aint great, especially domestic.
And the international shuts down all food quite early.

Anyway, booked the hotel as a first time, and then called the airport direct for a transfer
They pick you up in a blue estate car, and i offered the guy money, and he said it was ok, was free, amazing in romania, should have probably gave him a couple of euros anyway, but didnt.

The town is quite far away, and in rush hour, can be a nightmare, so for the fairness of this was nice, and close, i think deserves credit of a nice business hotel.

Had breakfast, nothing great, but was ok.

And back to airport in morning, Airport transfer was free, leaves 45 and 15 mins past hour.

Defo stay there again, if was a business stay over, also noticed BA staff stayed there, so can't be bad.

Jack.

“Very, Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2010

We started out on the wrong foot with our first stay at the Angelo. There was a mix up in picking us up at the airport and as a result we waited for almost 1 hour at 3AM after our flight from Tunisia had been delayed. Everything after that was very, very good.

The room was modern, large and clean. There is a very nice sauna and workout area filled with fluffy towels and a bowl of fresh green apples and complimentary water bottles.

There is a restaurant on site which is open 24 hours a day. The food is not fantastic - but to be able to find a hot meal without having to walk or travel anywhere in the middle of the night is truly a godsend.

Anytime we asked for anything be it room service, arranging for a taxi to Bucharest or how to operate the sauna, we were given IMMEDIATE and courteous attention. None of the sourness, suspicion or apathy found in many Romanian hotels is to be found here.

We received a personal apology from Mr. Rosu the Front Office Manager in regard to the airport pick-up mix up...by that time all had been forgiven but the personal touch and care to attention was not lost on us.

Next month we plan to stay at the Angelo again. Bravo!
