“First class service with wonderful staff”

I stayed here on my trip through Transylvania and without a doubt this was the nicest hotel I stayed. The painted monastery of Voronet is nearby. Staff was amazing, friendly and helpful. Nice decorations, the room were really cool. Nice clean bathroom and the bed was very comfortable. The scenery from my window was cool. Restaurant had really nice food and the staff was also nice. Shame i only had one night at this location.

“If this is the best the area has to offer, I'd stay away from the area.”

There has simply got to be a better lodging solution than this one in this area. We booked from afar and trusted the Best Western brand; we simply didn't have time to research other options. But driving around the area during our stay revealed potentially better values. Trip Advisor members who try alternatives could do the traveling community a big favor by coming up with better recommendations. The Hotel staff and management are simply unacceptable. No smiles. No welcome. No help with bags. No interest in helping to solve any problem in any way. I guess the word is "rude", even in a country like Romania where hospitality is an art form in the early to mid stage of development. Upon arrival and when I was shown the room style I had booked, I was not pleased. I told the desk staff that i would be pleased to pay more for upgraded accommodation but they rudely refused, saying the better rooms were booked. And yet for the two nights we were there the hotel was virtually empty....a couple of bus loads of Senior Citizens from Italy came through.....but surely not booked into Junior or VIP Suites. The parking lot was empty except for our car. The lobby was virtually deserted the whole time.....a mystery. Each and every request was met with a firm, scowling "no". Still more mystery. The breakfast service and food in the restaurant are hopelessly bad. Staff looks away when you enter....no greetings of any kind. Stale bread. Watered down juice. Out of food.....noone minding the "buffet". It is SO bad, one wonders if it is a prank. We did try an evening meal on the night or arrival and the food was poor. They rate themselves as a four star hotel.....but this is a two star hotel, and that is somewhat generous. As for the rooms, ours was OK as to size, a little on the snug side.....but there was no A/C except open windows and the street noise at night was horrific.....dogs barking all night and one night a guy was using a chain saw most of the night.....I suppose the hotel can't help the latter, but the guest can't help it either that the hotel is in a bad location in the town. The hotel advertises that it has Wireless internet, but it is very flakey.....didn't work half the time....faded in and out. My advice is to look for something (anything) else. If a good three or four star lodging would emerge in this area they would bury the Best Western. This one is a waste of money.

“Centrally located but a bit bland”

Probably the only modern (i.e. 'western style') hotel in the town, it's hard to miss slap bang in the centre. The architecture externally and internally is bland and featureless. Rooms were largish and the beds clean but the bathrooms were poky, meaning one had to squeeze between the shower cubicle, wash basin and door just to move around. The corridor lighting system supposedly should come on when it senses movement - this did not always happen. Breakfast was a buffet but definitely geared towards local palates. Restaurant appears to close around 10:30 so don't plan on arriving late and hungry. WIFI available in the lobby only. Price was OK (about EUR 60) but probably high for Romania.

“Good location for the Painted Monasteries”

We arrived mid evening to discover that the k itchens were closed - no resaurant, bar snacks or room service. The receprion staff suggested a local eatery but we didn't like the look of it. A search reveraled no other alternatives. We finally managed to get a bowl of soup at the hotel. The hotel warned us that the situation would be the same the following night again. We managed to find an excellent restaurant about a half mile away. The surrounding countryside is stunning.
The room was oddly shaped - the twin beds were at 90 degrees to each other. Breakfast was generally OK.
I would definitely consider this hotel to be "the best available locally" - it is superbly located for Voronets, Molditsa etc. but this is a remote area a long way from Bucharest and very close to the Ukraine border. You can't reaisltically expect city centre service in a remote rural area like this.

“Good place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 April 2008

My wife and I, together with couple of friends stayed here for one night in April 2008. The hotel met all our expectations, and by this I mean: the rooms were clean, medium size (european sizes), with comfy bed, clean bathroom, air condition, etc.
The hotel's restaurant was ok, so was the bar. The at the bar was uncommunicative, quite opposite from the receptionists, which were more than happy to help whenever possible.
If you are looking a place to stay in Gura Humorului for 1-3 nights... this is it!
