“Won't be staying here again. . .”
We had a group booking occupying 8 rooms over 6 nights from 21-27 November 2006.
Overall the hotel is rundown and tired. The hotel staff need a LOT of training. We'll be staying at another hotel the next time we visit.
Room: We stayed in the deluxe room. The first room that I personally went into was the room from hell. The bathroom door was a thin door with a door closer. It sounded like a screen door from a rundown house in southern Alabama. The room was on the 14th floor. The room was musty and smelled of urine, stale beer, and cigarette. The carpet was filthy. The room was supposed to have a mini bar and it did not, but it did have a fridge. The inner sheer curtains were so dirty that they were gray. The curtain rod brackets were not secured properly which made the curtains impossible to close or open. The sheets smelled clean, but the bed felt damp from the humidity. The room had cable TV with premium movie channels which was the only plus. I couldn't bear the thought of staying in that room for an additional 5 nights so we complained the following morning about the room, and the hotel staff immediately moved us into another room. This time the room was much cleaner and it did not smell bad. It was still a bit musty, but at least the bed wasn't damp. This room had a mini bar and fridge. The bathroom could have been cleaner. The cleaning staff need to be shown how to clean grout between the tiles. The hot water was okay but started to run out if two people had back-to-back showers (my husband and I are not ones to have long showers).
Amenities: The hotel does not have a pool as advertised by some travel sites. The "pool" is on the roof and it is supposedly undergoing renovations, but in reality it's more like a whirlpool in size. I don't think they have any intention of fixing it since the water was was a thick and green. Also the hotel does not have a gym.
Breakfast: The selection was so-so if you're not a picky eater. There was an omlet/egg station which was okay. The fruit looked like it had been out for a long time even when I went in at 6:30 AM. The bacon was good but was only avaiable on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
The hotel was advertised as being a new buidling in some hotel sites but was actually really tired. The hallways were really rundown and smelly: the carpet needed to be replaced. I did notice that the upper floors, 17th and higher, had better hallways as they had tiled floors.
Service: The staff was friendly but need a LOT of training. First, they didn't follow instructions which really started to get old. We had specifically asked for a van pick-up for three people with flight details and times, and they failed even after writing down the details. Then we asked that all transportation charges be charged to one room (we had at least 8 over the 6 days). This did not happen either. Check-out was a nightmare. The staff was completely overwhelmed when our group checked out. When we checked out, we noticed that transportation charges were charged to various rooms without approvable. It took us almost an hour to check out, which almost resulted in us missing our flight.
Location: The location was very good. You can walk to the Ayala Center (shopping mall) which made it really convenient to buy things, eat out, and get taxis.
Extra Tip for a new traveler to Cebu: Take a taxi instead of the hotel transportation, it's much cheaper and faster.
