“friendly front desk, delicious buffet breakfast, average rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

I think Royal Mandaya has one of the friendliest and accommodating front desk staff among the hotels I've been to. However, I can't say that they're the most efficient. I booked a couple of rooms when I went there last week but it wasn't until I returned to Manila that I realized that the charges were short of one room and that our airport transfer which was supposed to cost P100/pax wasn't included in the bill. Well, of course I'm not complaining since it was to my advantage but the hotel would really lose some income if its people fail to do such simple computations.

The lobby of the hotel is nice, so is the complimentary buffet breakfast. If only for the breakfast, I wouldn't hesitate to stay in Mandaya again. The selection is good. I love the chicken noodles and the egg station as well as the assorted breads and pastries. The dining area is also chic and comfortable.

Btw, Mandaya has two wings. I stayed in the new one. The room is just the typical hotel fare. Nothing special or outstanding. I was able to access their free wifi but only at a certain spot in the room. There's a coffee and tea making facility but no tea or coffee. Two small bottled water are provided for free, however.

The bed is firm but I don't like the pillows. They didn't look very clean to me. The towels (they only provide bath towels) are also a bit old. But the toilet paper was soft and the hot shower is heavenly. There's a 32-inch flat TV with cable service and a mini bar.

Mandaya's location is very good. There are lots of affordable and nice restaurants around. Getting a taxi is also a breeze.

If I want to have a delightful breakfast and stay within the downtown area, I might check-in at Royal Mandaya again but if a cozy, nice room is what I'm after, I think I'll look elsewhere.

Room Tip: make sure that you get a room at the new wing.

“Not exactly what i expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 June 2011

The rumbling sound from the hotel's hot water pipeline was so loud that I thought it was from an electric generator at first! It certainly did not put me to sleep on my first night! Every time somebody would take a bath from the adjacent rooms / floors, this sound would echo into my room!

The staff are friendly, however, the one on the front desk didn't even take note of this complaint when I told her about my experience that particular night! Very sad...

like the Mandaya mainly for its great ambience. A perfect place to stay. A hot tub in every room and great dining at Kamayo Cafe. did i just said that the price is also very affordable. In a scale of 1-10, I give this cozy place a score of 9. I will certainly come back and enjoy my stay.

“Improving”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2011

I stay at this hotel often. The staff always treats me well and takes care of any issues I have. They are making some improvements to the lobby cafe and rooms. So lately I haven't seen any of the issues that others complain about. The location is good with little wait for a taxi when needed. Compared to local hotels in the city, its one of the best. And the staff is much better than the higher class hotel just 2 blocks away (which has staff that knows that and treats you like they know it) Compared to big international chains, most hotels in the Philippines can't compare. So for now I will keep staying there and still consider them worth the money for me.
