“Horrible experience, crap hotel in RED LIGHT district.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

Had the unfortunate experience of staying in Citadel on Feb 24th. Was in Manila Feb 23rd but didn't make any room reservations, checked into Manila Berjaya which had nice clean room and fast internet but bad service (enough, will detail on another thread)

Berjaya only had one room for 1 night. Desperately seeked out Citadel in the internet with "reasonable" price. Knowing Makati is not cheap, thought PHP1,900 per room with twin beds is a good bargain.... WRONG.

The moment I stepped into the lobby, I regretted. It's dirty, smelly, filled with people, with only 2 SMALL lifts serving 30 plus floors. There're absolutely no place to sit for a discussion in the lobby.

The Room?, geez, it's a small hole with 1.5 feet space between the end of gthe bed and the wall. It's supposed to be a "Studio suite". Hot shower doesn't work.

Finally, reception staff, while friendly, really lacks basic knowledge. I tried to arrange for transportation to Clark Field airport, the budget airline hub of Manila. Heck, though it's a stupidly far airport, there's no reason for them not knowing what I'm talking about.

Will I recommend it to a friend? Heck, I wouldn't recommend it to an enemy.

The way potray themselves in their website is shameful. So's the travel and hotel booking websites. Think the service providers such those hosting hotel reservation service websites should have more pride in what they do. That this place is even in their "list" is shameful.

“Just Acceptable Standard”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

I stayed here for two nights on a follow-up trip to Manila. I agree with other reviewers that the hotel is badly in need of renovation, the rooms are gloomy and need upgrading. The redeeming feature of the hotel is the competence and friendliness of the staff. Do not stay here unless you wish to partake in the nightlife of Burgos Street and can accept the poor quality rooms.

“Wouldn't do it again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

Pros: (1) good location. Didn't mind the red light district as the girls didn't harass us but you KNOW they're there. Plenty of food options: restaurants to fast food joints. Massage places and hair salons are plenty too.

Cons: (1) dirty and smelly. Rooms need RENO badly! Went in a group of 8 with 3 small children. So originally booked 3 separate rooms but these were VERY SMALL and not clean looking. We were upgraded to a single 3 bedroom suite with kitchen at no extra cost, so that's a PRO. (2) internet costs money. I booked thru Asiarooms.com and wasn't supposed to be charged and had emails to prove it. Asiarooms.com tried repeatedly to deny me this and it took many calls before they finally paid for the internet for ONE room.

Given my thoughts of their lack of cleanliness, I refused to let my kids use their pool so I never checked to see if they even had one!

Simple, but friendly hotel. Didn't know it was in the red light district, so that was a bit shock to me.

“shocking hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

Lets put it bluntly....I travel around Asia 7 times a year for over 8 years and the Citadel would be the worst hotel/apartment I ahve ever stayed in. Yes it has the location for the bars and nightlife but there are many better hotels close by such as City Gardens which as way above the Citadel. if you really want to stay there expect the following....many friendly cockroaches....shocking rooms with everything falling apart....constant unwanted knocks on the door by prostitues arranged by the scamming doormen (these guys are terrble)....front desk not much better as they are in on all the scams as well.....nothing of a pool....and totally nothing like how it looks on their website. Quite a laugh in fact. All I can say is stay there at your peril.
