“Probably best option”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

First room had roaches next room was okay. Lobby very nice but rooms are not compatible with settings, well below quality expected for price. Staff are friendly and helpful, except for when we had roaches in room, not even an apology. From looking at other hotels probably best option in Baguio, but dont get to excited. Also there is a 150 peso charge for internet in the room although the lobby is free. Amenities are 4 star and rooms are 2 star at best. Stay was during the 16th of January 2012.

“Nice rooms, but avoid rooms facing the road. No manager!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2011

The rooms are nice, but those facing the road have screens to either side of the sliding glass doors that let in the road noise as well as the music and announcements from the very loud PA system at the Teachers Camp across the road. The screens should be replaced with wood or panes of glass to keep out the noise!

They provide free sachets of coffee, but almost all of the rooms no longer have hot water kettles, so how can you make a hot cup of coffee? They provide no spare roll of toilet tissue. They do not replace amenities for guests staying more than one night. In fact, they removed the used bars of soap, so we had no soap the second day and had to ask for more.

There is "free WiFi", but it only works around the reception and definitely not in our room. I went down to the restaurant adjacent to the reception after dinner to get onto the Internet, but soon realized that the receptionist was hogging all the bandwidth for her entertainment, so I gave up and returned to my room.

The breakfast in the restaurant is much better than it was three years ago and the prices are reasonable. A breakfast with pancakes, an egg and bacon or ham costs 130 pesos.

What stands out is the total absence of management. In the restaurant, you must suffer through the racket of a local radio station blasting from the adjoining function room, even at breakfast. In our room, the shower head fell off the wall bracket more than ten times in the course of a shower. The the bulb in the lamp on the nightstand was burned out when we arrived and no one ever replaced it. The little fridge was unplugged when we arrived. The person showing us to our room did not know how much we would be charged for the bottles of water in the room. There were no bath towels, only hand towels. The television displayed intermittently a warning: LNB PS; I suppose this referred to a problem with the satellite antenna's low-noise-block amplifier's power supply, but it was quite irritating.

Room Tip: Insist on a room not facing the road. If you cannot get one, go elsewhere if you want to sleep! If y...

“Excellent dining experience.”

We were in Baguio for my parents' 25th wedding anniversary. Decided to have a nice dinner at The Manor. The dining hall looked like an open lobby, overlooking the posh gardens, lush trees and greenery within the hotel compound. Very posh but cozy interiors with ambient dim lighting, definitely perfect for an intimate dinner with your loved ones. The food and service was great. This would make a nice wedding reception area for couples who love the outdoors and the mountain views.

“Reason for confusion - there are TWO 'Manors'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2011

people found this review helpful

I would just like to clarify that the reason some of these reviewers are perplexed by the reviews of some others is that they are not all talking about the same hotel - there is (1) the South Drive Manor, a smaller 14 unit hotel located of course on South Drive ( Paterno Street mailing address) and (2) 'The Manor', a giant hotel located inside Camp John Hay. The two hotels have very different price ranges and amenities. As you read these reviews ascertain if the reviwer is talking about 'South Drive Manor' or 'The Manor'

“Quiet, Cool and Relaxing. The best place to stay in while in Baguio.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

I stayed here with my family for an overnight trip in Baguio. By looking around the city and comparing how the other hotels look, i would say that The Manor easily beats them all. The best thing about it is it doesn't disappoint when you walk inside it. The location is superb if you want a comfortable, quiet and relaxing stay in the City of Pines.

The lobby is warm and inviting and the staff are courteous and helpful. All the staff members also look sharp and neat which is a good indication that their service is also at par. The manor offers the best venue where one would like to dine, relax and enjoy time with their family or friends. The cafe at the ground floor is simply superb with its selection of drinks and food coupled with the ambiance the hotels garden has to offer. I would say that the garden cafe is the best offering the Manor has.

The rooms that we got were of good enough standard however the toilet and shower room was a bit small compared to most hotels that offer the same pernight rate. I would say that a six foot and up person would find some degree of annoyance when maneuvering inside their tiny bathrooms. However, the rooms were clean and kept up nice. No stains, dirt and dust. All the things in the hotel worked well. All the lights were clean, which is another indication of good service. Flat screen tv, i would say 40". The rooms were also quiet given the fact that the rooms relied on the cool mountain air and an overhead fan for comfort. This also goes to show the type of people the hotel attracts which is also a factor to whether one will have a good stay or not.

I had to pay for wifi though, a hundred pesos for 24 hours but in my opinion, this should be free for all checked in guests.

After our dinner outside, we decided to have dessert and night time drinks at the garden cafe. I have to say again that it was a wonderful experience as the night air and the cool clean wind was perfectly accentuated by the warm quiet and relaxing ambiance of the cafe decor. We ate breakfast in the hotel and it was really good. This hotel is known for its superb breakfast.

The hotel aside from the restaurant also has a health spa that offers a gym, massage room, showers, sauna and jacuzzi. Some of the Gym equipment needs a tiny bit maintenance. However the bad part was the staff who was in uniform was also working out there and there were times that i couldn't use certain equipment because he was using them. He tarnished the image of the other staff members in my opinion.

When staying here, one must bring a car to be able to go out into town as the location is a bit far. However, pleasurable hikes and walking areas (parks, trails) surround the hotel and is very much worth the effort. There are a few shops located below the hotel grounds which is of walking distance.

The Manor is located near the John Hay House, the baguio country club, and the teachers camp.

Our stay cost around 15K for 2 rooms (one reg., one deluxe) and breakfast for 5.
