“Great food, grounds, & staff but needs some "tweeking"...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

With engaging & obliging staff, fabulous food and a spectacular pool, the Gran has the basis to be a wonderful hotel...especially when you add a quiet residential location, beautiful grounds, and comfy patios and balconies. Other service was also great: they found an archaeological guide (Maritza) for us who was one of the best we've ever had. The Gran does have the potential to be the "heaven" described in a 2009 review (of a 2008 stay.)

I wonder if the problems we ran into were due to timing: they were just gearing up for their season--lots of painting, planting, scrubbing & repairs going on. But, regardless, we found the bathroom tired, the towels & bathrobes obviously well- washed but grey and rough, and we had a problem with the plumbing that they were unable to resolve during our stay: filling the tub brought in silt with the water.

I would, however, give them the benefit of the doubt, and if we return to Trujillo we would try the Gran again..mainly because of the positives but also because we found downtown Trujillo noisy and fine to visit but not a relaxing place to stay.

“Quiet Elegance in Trujillo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2009

If you need to be located in the center of the action, (or downtown Trujillo) this is not your answer. But if you're looking for a quiet neighborhood hotel with elegance and style, this is a great option. Also, if you have young children traveling with you, there can't be a better alternative. The grounds are designed with families in mind, with large expanses of grass, llamas grazing, ping pong tables and a large swimming pool. You can pamper yourself with room service and spa treatments if that's your thing. Our thing was a day long city tour of the pyramids Huaca del Sol, Huaca de la Luna and the rest, along with a side trip to Huanchaco for lunch on the ocean. The hotel staff lined us up with a private car and driver for the day for $50 USD who took us to all those places and on a downtown tour. All in all, a luxurious option in a quiet, out of the way residential neighborhood, if you don't need the Plaza de Armas action and noise.

“Best Hotel in town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 April 2009

We stayed at this hotel for a few days. It's the best hotel in town, peaceful, clean, big rooms, excellent views, great pool, good surroundings, the buffet breakfast real nice, only the breakfast, lunch and dinner are better anywhere else. Great place to stay in Trujillo.

“Pleasant stay; Good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2009

Trujillo is a 'working town' with few notable sights or activities to draw tourists to the area. I stayed here only one night while in the area on business.
The hotel is an oasis in an otherwise rather mundane neighborhood and area. Rooms are spacious and well furnished. Bathrooms are adequate with a tub/shower combination.
Food in the restaurant was consistently good, but was often slow as, it was explained, everything is prepared from scratch. English is in short supply. But, if you have as much patience as the staff, you will obtain what you need.
The staff allowed us to stay in the room well into the afternoon as we had a late flight back to Lima. Much appreciated.
