It's a beautiful lodge with incredible facilities considering the location - a good buffet restaurant, bar, shop, massage, WiFi.
The rooms are also attractive and spacious with a flushing toilet (a novelty after the Inca Trail) and a shower - though the shower is cold, not that you want a hot shower here!
There's no electricity in the room, though there are plenty of sockets in the main lodge available for charging cameras etc at certain times of the day.
Room lighting is provided by kerosene lamps and a couple of candles. It's still pretty dark though, and at night you'll want a torch to ensure you don't step on anything "crunchy"...
Yes, the room is open to the jungle, you will get lots of insects, you will see cockroaches (some enormous) in the bathroom - it's all part of the deal and for me at least, part of the attraction.
The beds do have a fully enclosed mosquito net to ensure you are not disturbed or bitten during the night. I'm a light sleeper, but I slept better here than anywhere else on the trip - despite the heat and weird jungle noises!
My only issue with the rooms is the lack of privacy. You can hear everything your neighbours say and do (eek!), real perverts could even peer round the corners of the balcony. There's also gaps in the walls where passers by could have a peek. The "door" is just a curtain so anyone could wander in at any time.
You are given a safe to store your valuables, but it's quite small. Not that I think security is much of an issue here, you probably have more to fear from the local wildlife stealing your stuff!
My biggest regret is that we only stayed for 2 nights. "Three days and two nights in the Amazon" sounded like a lot when I booked it, but in practice it takes a day to get there and a day to get back, so you only get one day in the jungle and I would have liked at least two or three whole days to explore properly. After that, the heat, humidity and insect bites - I'd definitely be ready for civilisation again!
