We arrived at Gran Nacional, were ignored at the front desk for a while before they checked us in. The bellman took us to the room and was about to leave when I asked when th beds would be made up and the room cleaned, as there were remnants of the previous guest's stay. He said "Oh Sh*t" and left. We thought they'd give us another room, but we sat there waiting for the very rude maid to come and refresh the room. The sheets were not changed!
The screens do not fit properly, hence the room was filled with mosquitoes, many of which enjoyed fine meals. There was A/C, but it's on a 20 minute timer, so we had to get up all night to keep turning it on. On the good side, there was a nice big screen TV. and the two bedded rooom was of decent size.
The noise level was unbelieveable! Loud music from the nightclub and casino across the street, children pounding on hte walls as they ran up the hall, and a marching band practising in the school across the street, sometimes until midnight.
The coffe shop was decent in food and service, the Barbacoa (barbecue) Restaurant was passbale. Barbecue here means they pour Kraft sauce over the meat.....
This hotel was rather a dump, but after seeing the other places in this town, it was the best. The value for money was not there, though.
Do yourself a favor and skip Panama, the American occupation has made the people unfriendly to Americans.
