“Playa La Barqueta...Las Olas Villa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

We just returned from a wonderful trip to Las Olas Villa in Playa La Barqueta just outside of David. The home and staff were amazing and the location beautiful!

Couldn't find a lot of information on-line before we left, so I wanted to be able to post on our experience. The home we rented was beautiful, the weather was perfect, and the locals welcoming.

The city of David has a full service grocery stores and everything you would need while visiting the area. Banks, hospitals, etc. just like any city in the states.

The area we stayed was a 25 minute drive from David airport. The roads in the area are all very well maintained and only a few bumps here and there. There was traffic in the city of David, but very little once you left the city limits.

The black beaches are beautiful and while the Pacific can be dangerous at times because of strong tides, the surfing was good. We are beginners but watched some really good surfers there. Told that some were as high as eight feet at times. We did a little swimming but were cautious...it was fine.

Horse back rode on the beach 2x and loved it. We also took a day trip to Boca Chica where we got on a boat and visited some beautiful white sand islands that we had to ourselves. This is a must if you are in the area...don't know the name of the Marina but it is owned by a man named Carlos, his sons brought our lunch and took us on their boat. This was one of the highlights of our trip!

It was our first time to Panama and I would suggest it for a family or couples. We were traveling with My Husband and I (40) , 4 young adults (18-20), a 14 month old baby and my retired in-laws. We all had a great time!

“shall definitely return!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2010

My wife and I took our 2 year old daughter to Las Olas and had a wonderful time. The room was clean, spacious and had a beach view - what more did we want! Our 2 year old had a wonderful time at the pool, playing on the kids facilities and running around on the beach - perfect place to take the kids!
As I've read in various reviews, the resort was really quiet which meant we had the swimming pool and beach to ourselves, making the stay for my wife and I even more romantic!
The meals we had were delicious, top quality food at a very affordable price with servings even the hungriest of people would be content with!
Due to our short stay we couldn't partake in one of the many excursions/activities offered but the kayaking up river through mangroves did sound appealing!
We're definitely looking forward to our return to Las Olas!

“The place is odd, but pleasant enough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

OK, if you read the reviews here, you can tell this place is a bit strange. Like the experience of other posters, there were VERY few guests at the hotel during our stay. There seem to be some activities available in this remote hotel/condo development, but other than a walk on the beach and a swim at the pool (beach is probably too rough for actual swimming), these activities are not obvious. I might ask the hotel in advance whether you can do turtle viewing, kayaking, etc. Read the route directions on the hotel website: other than the missing Hertz location (there's now a hotel sign at that intersection), it's not hard to find this place. By the way, the "nearby" town of David isn't a pretty place, and you'll probably want to stop there only for supplies. We stayed at the hotel for only an overnight and I'm not sure I'd want to stay more than 2 days.

A previous European reviewer panned the restaurant. (Indeed, that review initially caused us to look for a "locals" restaurant -- the only one we saw looked terrible and we retreated back to the hotel). Either the hotel has gotten a new chef, or the previous reviewer is very picky. The dining room is very well decorated, the food is quite good and the prices are very reasonable ($8 to $13 entreees, $1.50 beers, $2 desserts). The filet mignon special my daughter got was about the best meat I've seen in Panama; my seafood with rice was about as good as I get in Spain. Indeed, the fact that you can get a good, inexpensive meal at the hotel restaurant is a good reason to stay here!

The rooms are motel-like, but they all overlook the beach, and have nice views. Other than the somewhat remote location and the lack of a lot of things to do, there's little that's unpleasant about the place. There were biting bugs at twilight on the beach, but our morning beach walk was bug-free.

“alone at the beach”

We stayed here one night when driving between Bocas del Toro and Pedasi. The resort is quite large with nice amenities but the place was a ghost town when we were there. We were the only guests in the entire complex, a little scary. Price was great at $60 a night and the room was clean, had AC, ocean view, good restaurant, computer access, pool and some available activities. It was a 45 minute poorly marked drive from David. At night there were thousands of mosquitoes outside. We stayed inside with all doors and windows closed, yikes! This place was just kind of creepy.
