We stayed 2 nights at the Adler on a small-group tour and this was one of the better places we landed. The hotel is a very pleasant, modern, white building with black trim. Rooms are done in brown tones with African-themed bedspreads, upholstery, shower curtains, etc., and though that may not sound like the last word in interior design, in fact the rooms were very pleasant (see the photos). There was a fridge in the room, but there was no facility to boil water for a cup of tea or coffee. Our room at the back of the property on the ground floor was very comfortable - nothing to complain about, except perhaps that the reading lights by the bed were inadequate. Breakfast was the standard Namibian affair, meaning a blend of English and German styles. Staff were helpful and friendly.
The hotel has an indoor heated pool, which would be preferable to the cold Atlantic most of the year.
The location by the waterfront is a plus, though, as the previous reviewer noted, there is a huge building between the Adler and the ocean. We walked everywhere from here (within Swakopmund), and had no problems, and didn't mind the opportunity to stretch our legs. Dinner at the Grape Vine, about 15 minutes' walk away, was excellent and is highly recommended: especially if you have an interest in wine. Our other dinner at "The Lighthouse" was not, however, and we cannot recommend it.
