“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

We visited The Burning Shore for holidays a week ago and we were surprised after reading all the bad reviews. We enjoyed our stay and were very happy with all the services and we dont have any complaints. Please dont see it as the Brangelina five star hotel, just see it as a normal Namibian hotel for normal people who can afford to stay there.

Clean, neat and professional service. All our expetations were met exept that we did ask for a seaview! Still it was a very enjoyable time!

“Its a good thing we had a discounted rate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

Stayed here for 1 night in December 2010. Luckily we got a discounted rate at almost 50%, and at that rate, the stay was average. It would be severly overpriced for what you get if you pay full whack. Design of room let down by open plan toilet (why anyone finds this romantic is beyond me). Design/decor fine, but again, let down by electrical cords out in the open - not neatly tucked away. Silly things bugged me, like to get out the door onto the patio, the heavy curtains hang in the way, and you cannot open them fully - a tie-back would sort this out. Breakfast was mediocre. Certainly nothing special and no extra lengths were gone to for variety. Cooked breakfast oily. Dinner was average and again, nothing special. At least use fabric napkins - who ever thought that paper napkins would suffice? I wouldn't run back there in a hurry, but certainly wasn't offensive or bad. Just nothing special. Front check-in desk and friendliness was the best part.

“The name is better than the experience”

I went to this hotel on a planning and team build. Its a nice place with some very big rooms, the staff are nice and the view is nice. Everything is nice - but not much is exceptional. There's a lot to do around and about, but beyond a beach with flamingoes and the odd seal (sometimes decomposing on the beach), there is little to do without transport. The food was (guess) ... nice.

Allegedly, Brad and Angelina stayed here, but i suspect this would be more down to their agent not doing research than anything else. The decor can be a bit confused sometimes - the bar restaurant seems to be trying to fuse 70s English with Modern African.

The staff are pleasant and helpful but i missed the beaming smiles i found in other places in Namibia. I am told that in December the whole area gets mobbed with holiday makers and that may change the vibe... or bring one.

“Never stay here - they don't care”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2010

Very poor welcome (in contrast to all other places we stayed). We were travelling with friends who were shown into a large double windowed room overlooking the beach and ocean - ours had no window and was tiny. As they had no other guests they "upgraded" us to the same size room...but...no coffee or tea with the tea making facilities, one cake of soap, but two basins. The printed brochure promised refrigerator but none in any room and ironing board, ditto. Sloppy staff and poor management - not at all people friendly. We hate having to complain, but we did so often it was awful. Check my other reviews if you think I am picky - I'm not, but being ripped off really upsets me. Please don't stay here!
