“Not so Bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2010

We knew that the Grand Hotel would look better from the outside than the in, but we found our rooms certainly adquate. The hotel had heat in the rooms and hot water for showers, and the rooms were quite large. Beds weren't very comfortable - covered in plastic I think, so you couldn't help but sweat a bit. It was very cold and rainy during our stay in Ifrane, but the hotel was perfectly comfortable as long as you weren't expecting luxury. Service was a bit unusual, as most didn't seem to care if they had guests staying with them or not. But there were two folks who were very gracious. One was a man who helped us replace a few burnt out light bulbs in our room. The other was the waiter for breakfast who certainly seemed to care about the guests. Only difficulty was there was no heat and it was around 0 c when we were there! There was a great little restaurant nearby that did have heat and good food.

In order to see the Atlas Mtns in this area, this is not a bad alternative.

“Never Stay here”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2009

Whilst touring the Middle and High Atlas Mountains with a deluxe walking tour, we stayed at the Grand Hotel in Ifrane. Although we were aware beforehand that the hotel was the best available, I would rather had stayed in Fes and driven there and back for the day. The location of the hotel was excellent. We ate in the hotel's restaurant and dinner was good but not great. All else was terrible. The owner was rude and unhelpful. The bedrooms were terrible. Both my husband's and my beds were broken. The curtains were filthy as was the bathroom. The shower walls were oily and there were dark hairs on the floor. We received only one small towel each and could hardly see the bar of soap for its size. Numerous things were broken, such as our bedsize lamps and bed frames. The swimming pool was not working and had green algae in it. The owner refused to put any heat on in the dining room, so we ate in our coats. I woke up in the middle of the night frozen, as the heat had been turned off. When I explained that I was lactose intollerant at dinner and could not eat the custard flan, the owner claimed that not only was there no other dessert but that I could not even have a piece of fruit instead. Our stay was terrible.

“Don't stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2009

If you liked Fawlty Towers then stay here!
Bear in mind that this was advertised as a 4 star SPA hotel

We arrived on the 30th of December to be told that the only deals were half board, and the only rooms left were suites.
The "special" price for this was equivalent to £190 per person for one night!
After finding no alternative accommodation nearby we decided to treat ourselves to a night in the Grand Hotel Ifrane.

First of all "Grand" to me always used to mean big - it obviously means something else in Morocco as the Hotel was actually quite small.

The following is a list of complaints that we submitted to the management:

No hot water on arrival
Jacuzzi bath not working
Bathroom dirty
Room was freezing on our arrival - we had to turn the radiators on
Dangerous bodged electrical cabling for Air Conditioning - 2 different cables joined with sticky tape!
Impossible to use bedside light and A/C heating at the same time
Radiator cover fallen off wall
No internet access in room
No minibar
No hair dryer
Well used dressing gowns is probably an understatement
SPA was closed - check out the other reviews (its been closed for a while)
TV remote control, broken and batteries missing
No real parking
No soaps or shower gels & minimal toilet paper
Restaurant even more like Fawlty towers with staff running around everywhere like headless chickens
3 out of 4 napkins were stained and dirty
No no smoking area within Restaurant
Staff uniforms were old, worn and dirty
We had to ask for wine 3 times, and were finally given the choice of 1 bottle which arrived as we finished our main course.
No beer
Cold food - although not just for us, everyone was sending their food back
Dessert - there was no choice - we were told the dessert was natural fruit! The waiter then brought us a plate with an (unpeeled) orange, banana and apple - still I suppose natural fruit is better than artificial fruit.
Banging music - throughout our meal we could hear pounding music coming from the night club below, when we complained we were told not to worry it was only the DJ warming up!
Breakfast - poor, poor, poor - bread and jam with coffee and undrinkable juice

We reported the faults at 2100 and were told that a technician would be with us in the room in 15 minutes - funnily enough he did not turn up

Overall the staff all looked tired, stressed, badly trained and shabby, no one seemed to have a clue what was going on.
Checking out took almost half an hour, with multiple interruptions.

Do yourself a favor steer clear of Morocco's Fawlty Towers.

“beautiful hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2008

i enjoyed the stay in such a charming hotel... my husband and i we're treated like king and queen... the personnel were very professional and they made us feel as if we were VIPs, the suite we stayed at was well taking care of, clean and very comfortable. a Frensh breakfast was served at the exact time we requested it. lunch and dinners were as good as it can get. very tasty. i am surprised of what i read above, for some reason i think this person was paid to say what she said!!! surprisingly it seems that we visited the Grand hotel around the same time. so i don't see why such a difference between our experiences!!! i referred couple of my friends to go there and they told me of that review so i decided to write this so that people would know that i had the exact opposite and i would love to go back there... my friends in fact have reserved to be there this July 2008. wait to read their review.

“Not so Grand Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2007

We stayed on the 10th August 2007 and found no spa, pool or other facilities advertised and paid for. The breakfast was bread, coffee and cake for 70 dirhams, a complete rip off. There was no hot food. We left after one night . We had been promised hot water but there was none during our stay. To add insult to injury we were told a technician had visited our room when we were out at dinner and the water was hot! Not so! We've been in enough hotel rooms to know how to work a tap!!! We will be sure to avoid this not-so-grand hotel in the future. You would be wise to do the same.
