“Quite pricey for what you get”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

This is a riad hidden away in the walls of the medina. The service from the local staff was excellent however the owners were showing around buyers for the riad and were not hospitable as they should have been. This didn't mirror their marketing detail. The riad is in a tight alley within labrynthine network of other alleyways. Somewhat threatening and noisy, especially due to the gangs of locals and loud hammering of building works right next to the riad. Room was unusual with old traditional doors with bolt and padlock set-up? Heater provided in the room. Usual minimal hot water and hitting musty smells (certainly la maison du vent) from the adjoining bathroom/toilet although did have a B-Day. Not as eco, green and sustainable as made out to be in the marketing detail. Would have expected to have paid half the price for this experience. Didn't have best feeling here. The rooms all had Santa Claus teddies on each door though...lovely touch?

“Beautiful Riad with wonderful, welcoming, sweet staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2010

Spent two wonderful nights at La Maison Du Vent in Essaouira. The rooms are charming, the breakfast is delicious (and fresh) and the ladies who run the place are so sweet. The view from the roof top is spectacular - spend time up there and enjoy soak it in!
Bring your ear plugs though, the kids outside at night can be a bit noisy.

“All round wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2009

Located centrally in the medina, arrived to a warm reception with nice mint tea. The woman who runs the place was very helpful in recommending places to eat, visit etc. Breakfast delicious. Very charming rooms, beautiful decor, especially in the bathroom.
All round, a wonderful place, clean, friendly, helpful, welcoming.
Also has wifi.

“Our stay in Essaouira”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2008

Overall a good, relatively cheap riad, some street noise, filling of buckets fron the street tap, which will effect only some rooms, bed v. hard, good ensuite, but one morning no hot water for a while.
Staff very good, breakfast good if you like moroccan breakfasts. pancakes, butter, jam, white bread and plenty of good coffee or tea.
Roof terrace available for reading time or to escape from the bustle of the streets (which are much easier to walk down than those in the medina in Marrakech, less fumes and very few scooters and mopeds, but as kinobe24 said, broken drains mean a couple of back streets are best avoided, easily done)

  • Liked — good value
  • Disliked — hard bed

“Simple and comfortable”

We stayed here for 3 nights while on our honeymoon which was mainly based in Marrakech. It's simple, clean and very spacious (we were in room no 7 which is a suite, so it had an extra room). The decor is a bit dated, but the bathroom's nicer. The hotel is in a very quiet part of the Medina, mainly residential, and we found it silent and peaceful. Although it may look out of the way on the map, it's only a 5 minute walk away from anything in the centre, the medina is actually pretty small. The terrace is really gorgeous, (perhaps the nicest thing about the hotel!) but it was never used at all which seemed a pity as the space is great and the weather was perfect. In all, it's a pretty basic room, don't expect anything spectacular, but for the price (we paid about 65 euro a night) it was also good value. We found it very difficult to get a hold of the manager to ask him about things, but it turned out we did all right by ourselves. Essaouira is a really gorgeous place that I would love to come back to but I would probably look into another place to stay.

  • Liked — the terrace
  • Disliked — the room and lack of hospitality on the part of the owner
