We stayed at Ocean Vagabond for 5 nights and had such a brilliant time. From the mint tea on arrival to the scrub in the hammam to the wonderful view from our bedroom every morning, we really enjoyed our time in Essaouria and felt lucky to stay at the hotel and to creep back behind the hotel's wall to escape from the throb of the city.
The staff were helpful and attentive, discreetly present and always friendly. Our spacious room, Felluca, on two levels, had a seriously comfy bed and a lovely marbled bathroom (soft clean white towels and lovely local bath products). It was sea facing which I would thoroughly recommend as the balconies look out onto the sea promenade which is 'the' place to be seen strolling in the city. The breakfast buffet was fine, but the freshly squeezed orange juice and homemade yogurt (seriously delicious) made it great. Ask for fresh coffee and for eggs if you fancy it and it will be provided! We didn't eat dinner at the restaurant, although the menu generally looked good as we were keen to sample the delights of the town, thoroughly recommend Sams for fresher than fresh seafood (looks like a shack at the end of the pier, calamari melts in your mouth) and Elizir for a real culinary treat French/Moroccan/retro 1950's style. The walled garden is protected from the Essaourian wind making the garden a little suntrap and the pool, which was definitely easier to dip into than the Atlantic, the comfy sunloungers were the perfect place to chill out with food and drink delivered by the staff from the bar. This was the special thing about the hotel, it only has 14 bedrooms so seems intimate and cosy but it has amenities (including a fully stocked library, spa and swimming pool) of a place far bigger. Its location is perfect for the town and the beach and I would without doubt recommend this place to my friends and family. We were reticent to leave!
