“More a hotel than a riad, but awesome views and crashing surf”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

You need to ignore the outside and the alleys to get there, but it's a treat once you're in your room. The lobby area doesn't really appear to be used. The roof terrace is a very enjoyable place for breakfast, but the highlight is the waves crashing up against the base of the hotel itself. Built right into the wall, you look straight down from your window and there's the ocean! The bed was the most comfortable I found in all of Morocco!

“Authentic touch of Morocco-both the Riad and Essaouira”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We agree-this is more a Hotel than a Riad - in size. But the atmosphere has the Riad's "touch". The staff greets you at arrival ,smiling and with a helping hand carries the luggage to your room. Through out our 3 night stay they are there for you in any thinkable way -wanting the stay to be as pleasent as posssible. The rooms cleaned and tidied(clothes on hangers - suitcases tucked away)-small cented soaps and lotion layed out in the bathroom -this gives an extra feeling of service. The waiters were extremly friendly and understanding; as mentioned by another reviewer the Mimouna is not licenced so no alcohol is served there-but we had our own and the waiters kindly gave us glasses and ice. Breakfast super-enough of everything and the possibility of choosing type of eggs. We also experienced the Hammam;uuummm wonderfull massage. The Riad is situated in the Medina with all it's exciting"everyday life". The alleys are absolutely a part of Essaouiras charm!!! NOTICE HOW CLEAN THEY ARE EVERY MORNING- a well working system-dustbins emptied.(compared to when you passed through the night before .....)
At first impression it seems rather hopeless to find ones way around, but don't fret-it's no problem(honestly). We enjoyed are stay at Mimouna and Essaouira emmensely. Thanks from 4 gratefull Norwegians

“Amazing Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

What an experience to be literally over the sea and on top of that the room was beautiful and clean and the staff really helpful and nice. We had a great time at Mimouna

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room facing the sea with the big windows

“Fantastic Seawall View of the Atlantic.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

Jolene and I had a chance to stay in the Riad Mimoura for the one night we were in Essaouira last February. We booked a mini suite on the top floor. There were windows piercing the old fortification walls that had spectacular views. At high tide the waves crashed into the seawall 50 feet straight down from our windows. The salt spray would mist in our open windows.

Be warned there is no elevator. Our mini suite was about 60 steps up a winding staircase. The porter literally ran up the stairs with both of our bags. We took a little more time. The climb was worth it once we entered our room.

The room was large with a foyer and closet. A basket of fresh fruit and snacks was waiting on our arrival. There was a min safe in the room for our valuables. Our US dollars and euros were easily and fairly exchanged at the front desk

Breakfast was on the roof with panoramic sea views. We traveled in low season, so we had our choice of tables. We enjoyed both the dinner and the breakfast at the riad. We toured the medina and shopped the tremendous selection of hand crafted wood objects.

I agree with other reviews that this property was more like a hotel than a riad. We had just arrived from Marrakech. This riad is as deep into the Essaouira medina as you can get. All considered Jo and I rate this hotel experience in the top of our many travels due to the fantastic sea views and exotic location. We cheerfully recommend the Riad Mimoura.

Room Tip: This is an unique venue that should not be missed. Roof top views for all, but chose a mini suite in...

“Lived up to expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2011

Last year we fell in love with Essaouira for the wildness of the Ocean, the lovely beach, the fishing port with its array of boats, the diversity and quality of its Restaurants, and its people. We had booked a Mini Suite - room 310 and upon arrival we were offered the choice of 310 and 303. We chose 310 because it is a more traditional Morrocan room on the top floor and on the corner of the building which gives a 270 degree panoramic view of the ocean from its 4 windows. Room 303 is on the side of the building and is more modern, with a 'wall of glass' looking out onto the ocean, giving a 180 degree panoramic view of the ocean and the town walls. Quite a lot of work, particularly on the Rooftop Terrace was being undertaken, so the photographs on the Web Site of this area are somewhat out of date. The Terrace is now surrounded by tall glass panels replacing the low blue wooden structures, and the floor is tiled in brown 'Italian style' tiles. The old tables and chairs have also been replaced by more modern ones, and 2 large fixed sun shades introduced. We would agree with a previous reviewer that this is more of a Hotel than a traditional Riad. Here, there are smartly dressed Hall Porters, a couple of people in Reception, several waiters in the Restaurant etc. The breakfasts are excellent although not varied during our 3 day stay, comprising the usual breads, cakes, jams, yoghurts, boiled eggs etc. Conversely, we would strongly disagree with another reviewer who mentioned 'the smell of the Riad leaves a lot to be desired'. This, with our experience of the Riad, is totally unfounded and untrue, and the 'ill-lit alleys' are part of the towns 'charm'. They are everywhere in Morroco.
On the first morning we took in the views of the town and ocean from the terrace. The Manager approached us and offered freshly grilled sardines with salad, and a drink. What a lovely welcome ! There are many Restaurants close by so we did not eat in the Riad at night. The Riad is not licenced so no alcohol is available, which is a pity because with its fantastic views of the ocean it could become a desirable dining experience. Overall, we would thoroughly recommend the Mimouna and will stay here next year when we return. Enjoy !!
