“Lovely Riad in the centre of Essaouira”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2007

On arrival by bus into Essaouira we were promptly picked up by one of the Riad staff. After a short walk we reached Dar Nafoura and were warmly greeted by hosts Sylvie and Jackey. This is a lovely, comfortable riad decorated in a simple country style. It genuinely felt like being in someone's home. All the staff at Dar Nafoura were kind and helpful and made us feel completely at home during our stay there. The breakfasts were wonderful and the rooms were nice, if a little simple. Our only niggle was that the shower could have been better - but was certainly no worse than other riads we stayed in. Jackey and Sylvie were friendly and keen to ensure the needs of their guests were being met. This riad was a real haven from the hustle and bustle of Essaouira. We would definitely recommend it to others, and will hopefully go there again.

“Do not stay here!”

As per the previous complaint, i think we must have had the same room, it smelt damp, there were no windows and the bed sheets were stained and threadbare. The staff were unhelpful, we left one hour or so after arrival.

“top place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2007

Loved this place.

Rooms OK - clean, comfy

Staff - amazing, really helpfull, really friendly, perfect hosts. Really make this place stand out.

Good location, few minutes away from everywhere, is located in the walled town / souk

Best breakfast in Morroco!

  • Liked — staff, atmosphere, breakfast. a real happy vibe in the place
  • Disliked — a little noisy a night, carpenter below works until 1 am! Not a big deal though, just occasional sawing noise

“Nice staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2006

The hotel is easy to find from Bab Marrekech - it's signposted all the way, and a short walk from the Supratours drop off.

The staff were very friendly, and on check in sat us down, gave us tea and a small cake, and explained all the sights in Essaouira.
Our room on the third floor was okay, although it was clearly difficult to keep the stone floor clean. The bathroom could have been better too.

We did have some excitement while staying at the hotel, as on one night the lights went out. Okay, a blackout can happen, but as I looked out of our window I noticed the hotel was on fire!
We evacuated but no assistance from the hotel staff or management and in the pitch black darkness. It turned out the fire was caused by a short circuit on the junction box on the outside wall of the hotel. After a lot of commotion the fire was put out, the fire service arrived (in that order), and we kind of wandered back into the hotel. Later that night the lights came back on.

Eassaouira was a nice, relaxed place after Marrakech, and cheaper to buy stuff, but there isn't a great deal to do, and the sea food restaurant (one of the stalls) at the harbour gave us a serious stomach bug - even after being in Morocco for a week already.
