Last week we arrived to Essaouira after 6 long hours of driving. I was tired, hungry, and had three secret wishes: to eat something good as soon as possible, find a nice riad, and find a good bookstore. Essaouira miraculously took care of all our wishes within one single hour: we parked twenty meters away from the small restaurants at the port that offered excellent fresh grilled fish (two large plates for 9 euro), the first store we ran into at the entrance to the medina was a fantastic little bookstore, and the girl in the bookstore pointed us in the direction of Riad Dar Ness, just across the street. The Riad then continued to surprise us with its cosiness, friendliness, reasonable price and fantastic location. We paid euro 67 for a very clean and comfortable double room with breakfast. It also served as the perfect starting point to explore the medina. Our only sorrow was that we only had one day to spend there - can not wait to return.
