“Lovely little Riad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

This is a great little hotel/riad near the south east walls of the Medina. Only a few minutes walk from the Supratours bus depot and a 5 minute walk to the souks and to the beach where there are plenty of cafes/resturants to suit every budget.
Our room was situated on the roof terrace, and although small (particuarlly the bathroom) it was perfectly adequate. The breakfast of bread, jam and croissants were huge and one was plenty for 2 persons.
My only complaint was that the local children all seemed to congregate under my bedroom window to play football at the end of fast (as it was Ramadam) and we were kept awake til 2-3am every night by thier noise.

“Nothing like the website”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2011

The website is an extemely airbrushed version of the hotel. It is quite a bit more tired looking than what shows and clever photo angles mean that you cant see just how small the rooms are. Our double bed was pushed to the wall there was only space for 3 people to stand in the room. The rooms are hostel style in that walls were paper thin. I would only recommend if you are not sharing a room and a heavy sleeper. Plus side is the breakfast was decent (though never had a bad one in Morocco after 2 weeks travel), staff were nice and the bathroom was clean.

Hello, thank you for your message.
I knew you were angry with me, you've booked with an agency here travel. You wanted to cancel last night, but there are conditions cancellation very precise with the agencies. I asked you to get closer your agency to cancel, you do not want, and have been obliged to pay last night.
I've never hidden the fact that our rooms are not very large so you can see all guides and even some forums.
We tried to make this disadvantage an advantage in decorating the hotel with taste, by arranging the rooms properly. They are very cozy. We bathrooms redone recently. And everyone loves them.
And especially our strong point: the terrace solairum.
By cons, our hotel is entirely to photos that have obviously been taken by a professional
There was a lot of heavy rain this year and the painting was damaged, I start painting
Jan. 10, 2011. I'll put pictures on tripadvisor
Thank you for your comments and I hope you had a pleasant stay.
Best regards

“Nice place with good people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2010

The Ryad is clean and nicely decorated by the owner himself. Durind the ramadan period it could be a little bit noisy at night....but it's part of the cultural and traditional aspects of this place at that time period !!!
The personnel is very nice and helpfull, ask them what you need and you will be heard at any time !
The breakfast is served on the roof terrace where you can chill out or spend some time scheduling you day trip....by the way the hotel offer a wide range of activities (quads or camel excursions, hammam and spa....).

We had a lot of fun here and we are already planing to come back for new year's eve....We've been told that it's more than 20°C !

“noisy place, bad neighborhood”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

The hotel itself is clean and nicely decorated, but needs a renovation (do not trust the images from their web-site). But noise is terrible. Depending on the location of your room you have a choise between screaming children (day and night), circular saw (during the day), noisy neighbors walking upstaires and downstaires (day and night). But the personnel is worst of all. Simply ignoring your requests. Smoking downstaires (day and night), the smell comes directly to your room. We asked for a breakfast (we paid in advance) to be served at 7.00. The guy was sleeping and there were no breakfast. waked up, he brought a COLD coffee. Anyway, the place itself and a breakfast are overpriced. The view from roof terrace is horrible - comparing to other riads in more touristic part of Essaouira. You can definitely find something less expensive and more quite for the same price or less.

“Great place, even greater value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2010

I can't say enough nice things about this place. We arrived here after another place (Riad Nakhla) misplaced our reservation, treated us rudely, and then booked us into a place with which we were very dissatisfied. Fed up with how we'd been treated at our initial riad, we went in search of somewhere else and happened upon Hotel Emeraude.

The place is fantastic. The staff were exceedingly helpful and accommodating. The location is perfect. If you are coming or going on a Supratours bus, you are only a few minutes' walk from the drop off point. It is located close to a gate into the medina, so relative to many other hotels, it is actually quite easy to find. If you want to be surrounded by tourist shops and restaurants, this is not exactly the place for you, but we found the atmosphere much nicer than in the part of the city clogged with touts and aggressive shopkeepers. The rooms are not large but are very tastefully decorated. Someone in a review from several years back described the rooms and bathrooms as somewhat tired and in poor condition. I think there must have been a renovation since then since the bathroom was ultra-modern and absolutely spotless. Indeed, the entire place was spotless and well kept. After our initial problems with accommodation in Essaouira, this hotel felt like it was heaven sent.

As for value, our best comparison is the riad we stayed in our first night in Essaouira for Dh 250. Emeraude Hotel was a little less than twice as expensive (we paid Dh 450), but many, many times nicer.
