“Uderstated charm with a little intrigue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2011

A lovely cool calm riad in the heart of the medina, the rooms were clean and traditional with the worst pillows I have ever slept on thank god for the good hamam to offset the stiff neck, breakfast was lovely if a little carb loaded and the service was pleasant and efficient, the odd thing was the excessive ammount of managers or people without obvious purpose hanging about! There was a reluctance to return our passports and our change from paying the bill, that said we enjoyed our stay but would bring our own pillow if we ever returned !

“beautiful, cool and calm in the centre of Essaouira”

After finding all the places to stay in Lonely Planet full or utterly mediocre and overpriced we stumbled across this hotel. It's bigger than a true Riad but it no way less individual or peaceful. The courtyard is stunning and cool, the perfect place for drinks and the food is well above average. Our room was pretty, cool and very comfortable, the perfect place for our most relaxing three days in Morocco. The only negative was that at checkout we couldn't pay with credit card as previously promised, they couldn't give us a proper bill and they forgot to hand back our passports (admittedly we also forgot to ask) resulting in us having to turn the car round an hour along the road to Marrakesh.

“Possibly the best independent base to explore Essaouira”

We booked this Riad after reading reviews on tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. The whole establishment had a lot of charm and character. Our room itself was very nicely decorated and furnished and was larger than expected, with a separate sitting room area. Although the street outside was fairly noisy, this quietened down by 10pm. The staff were friendly and professional and most spoke excellent English. There were a number of welcome features in the accomodation, particularly an extensive roof terrace, a pleasant restaurant and a laundry service.

Breakfasts were somewhat marred by wasps but there were indoor dining areas where this was not such a problem.

All in all a very nice Riad in a great location.

“Lovely”

There are plenty of reviews here and in guide books. Most tell the same story: it's a delightful place to stay, thogh a bit pricey for what you get. I'd agree, and I'm glad I chose to stay there, because although I'm sure I could have got almost the experience in a similar place, I don't think they have quite the atmosphere of this one. I loved it. It made my stay in Essaouira. Bags of character; no funny plumbing (as reported somewhere I recall) . It's stylishly decorated in a trad Moroccan kind of way. My room was comfortable and individually decorated, with its own small sitting room and giving onto a pleasant baclony around one of two courtyards. It was possible to sit and relax here, in one of the downstairs rooms, or (my favourite) on the roof terrace which has comfortable seating and loungers. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was excellent.

“Beautiful!”

We treated ourselves to a night here in January after staying in very budget accommodation for a week, and thought it was lovely. On a par with the Maison du Sud which is just over the road. The room was on three levels and traditional morrocan style. Breakfast plentiful and tasty. Lovely courtyard, terrace and lounge areas. Own hamman. And right in the centre of the Madina. We paid £40.
