“Real moroccian spirit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 September 2011

I've been here during windsurf holidays with the group, so we had only one dinner in the hotel,
but it's very to have a drink after dinner in the hotel - it's very calm and cosy.
Room are clean, some has not so many windows so it's quite dark inside (Jimmy Henrix room is one of this).
Internet connection is good and stable, not in the room - in the lounge area. Breakfast was not so special - very sweet, always creeps.
It can be noisy (and be ready to wake before sunrise because of minaret), but it's normal for downtown location in Morocco.

Room Tip: 1st floor is the best

“You get what you pay for”

A large Riad, more like a hotel, with great staff and a nice courtyard. Kind of a busy location, perhaps a bit noisy, but much nicer than your average less expensive hotel in this area. Good value, if great service is your style.

“Worthwhile”

Since it was pouring down and freezing when we arrived, it was very nice to see that we had ended up at a nice place. The courtyard is a very soothing place to have a glass of wine after a busy, well perhaps not that busy, day. We got a top room with a small terrace section, which came to good use after the weather improved (though the views were less than stunning). The design of the room was rather dated, and as the rest of the place in need of rethinking, but it was clean and well kept. Beds are the usual Moroccan granite comfort. The hammam I found less impressive, but I did not visit any others in morocco so I don't know enough to put it into perspective. My only prior hammam experience is from Istanbul, and that was another thing entirely.

As has been pointed out, the restaurant is not too bad. Indeed, by Essaouiran standards, I'd go as far as calling it good. Food is mostly well cooked, albeit pretty unimaginative with a mostly adquate range of wines. We tried a number of restaurants but frequently ended up here due to the mostly poor level of cooking in Essaouira. Level of service is excellent with nice and helpful staff.

“Uderstated charm with a little intrigue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2011

A lovely cool calm riad in the heart of the medina, the rooms were clean and traditional with the worst pillows I have ever slept on thank god for the good hamam to offset the stiff neck, breakfast was lovely if a little carb loaded and the service was pleasant and efficient, the odd thing was the excessive ammount of managers or people without obvious purpose hanging about! There was a reluctance to return our passports and our change from paying the bill, that said we enjoyed our stay but would bring our own pillow if we ever returned !

“beautiful, cool and calm in the centre of Essaouira”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

After finding all the places to stay in Lonely Planet full or utterly mediocre and overpriced we stumbled across this hotel. It's bigger than a true Riad but it no way less individual or peaceful. The courtyard is stunning and cool, the perfect place for drinks and the food is well above average. Our room was pretty, cool and very comfortable, the perfect place for our most relaxing three days in Morocco. The only negative was that at checkout we couldn't pay with credit card as previously promised, they couldn't give us a proper bill and they forgot to hand back our passports (admittedly we also forgot to ask) resulting in us having to turn the car round an hour along the road to Marrakesh.
