“Simply the best.”

Just returned 1 day ago...
First of all all the reviews about the kindness of the staff and the quality of the resort is true.
We dont want to repeat these sentences, rather give some more helpful information.
The taxi trasfer was free of charge, covered by the hotel Upon arrival you get your cold towel and water in the taxi at the airport.
Our accomodation was luxury pavillon, nr.410. Very good location, private, close to the adult swimmingpool, with amazing view to the ocean bay.
Daily fruit and water free of charge into your room.
The breakfast is until 11 A.M., good for those who likes to wake up late. The breakfast has wide variety of foods, everything 5* standard.
You can have dinner in 2 restaurants, tha main one or near tha rocks of the ocean. Both one are fantastic. The dinner on the rocks is barbecue like, and the dinner in the main restaurant is international, with indian and mauritian dishes.
Even I am not a great eater, and choosy, I could find different food every night. At our first evening we were offered that whatever we would like to eat their chef prepares us, or if they do not have it (special food), they buy it for the next evening.

The resort has 2 swimmingpools: adult and for family. Both are excellent, the adult one, has jacuzzi formed for the human body, so you can lay on the stone&jacuzzi not fully covered by the water :)
None of the swimmingpools were stuffed, most of the times we were alone in the big pool (however we travelled at main season). Anytime you go to have a swim or rest to the swimmingpools, you get cold bottled water and fruits complimentary.

We have tried snorkelling, the reef wasnt colouful at all, with poor variety of fishes.

We have been to several trips, which are worth to visit. We did it by taxi of the hotel.
We visited botanic garden (taxi fee cca 30 euro taxi waiting for you), port louise (cca 30euro, taxi waiting for you), and a day long south trip (7 colour of earth, waterfall, rum factory, view points etc..) and the taxi cost was cca 100 euros for the full day. We do not recommend car hire, because the roads are so hectic on Mauritius, easy to lose your way :-)
Taxi cost can be put on your bill, so enough to pay at check out.

It really worth to choose half board (as you get the same menu as ala carte). Also it worth buying some wine outside the hotel, since the alcoholic drinks are quite expensive (bottle of wine cca 30 euros).

Private dining is free of service charge into your room, worth to try!

We have visited in the past years several luxury resorts (Maldives, Thailand, Canaries etc...) and by far this was simply the best.

Thanks for the staff who made it.

We wil surely visit next year another Oberoi in India.

“Oberoi Mauritius”

Outstanding good service, second to none. One comes to expect excellent and personal service at the Oberoi, but even by Oberoi high standards, this is top.

The basic rooms are extremely comfortable, and cleverly constructed to give open sea views and absolute privacy.

Excellent live music (not too loud - often not amplified at all, and often local style) in the main bar, which you can also hear gently in the main restaurant. There is no mindless musak at all anywhere. There is a second restaurant right by the sea where you hear the sea and the waves and chatter, and no music.

Great friendly dive centre, and quite good diving (not Red Sea standard, don't come here for the diving, but do dive if you come here). Ask Ravin to look after you and he and his team will spoil you and guide you to the best local diving, using the dive centre's own speed boat - ask Ravin to take you to Coin Demire (which is pretty much Red Sea standard), as well as the local wrecks and reefs which are easy to access and well worth it. Quite good snorkling from the beach. If you really want to swim in open sea, it's not great - very shallow inside the reef, and boats can be a hazard outside the reef. But it's fine for gentle sea bathing.

Good food. Food can be a weakness at Oberoi hotels in our experience. But not here. At its best the food at the Oberoi Mauritius is in Michelin star territory. And combined with the Oberoi service ethic ("you can have anything you want, just tell us what it is") one is sure to look forward to every meal.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms right near the On the Rocks restaurant (don't worry, they are quiet)

This is the perfect place to spend your holidays in Mauritius. They will make your life easy and nice, you will just have to relax and enjoy!

Rooms: nice and well decorated, well equiped, perfectly clean. Nice bathroom with a shower surrounded by nature

Surroundings: spectacular view, nice gardens and lovely beach (not the nicest of the island though but still very nice). 2 swimming pools with amazing views

Activities: more than enough, with free snorkeling, water ski, catamaran...

Service: excellent - everyone is really nice, welcoming and helpful

Food: expensive but really high-quality. Everything on the menu is worth trying.

SPA: high-quality

We highly recommend the place! Perfect for a romantic and relaxing stay in the island.

Room Tip: Room 321 is well located with nice view

“Difficult to find fault! Loved it.”

A couple of years ago we stayed at The Oberoi, Bali and were impressed by the quality of service and standards generally. However, we were disappointed by the position on a dirty beach.

The Oberoi, Mauritius combines the quality and high standards of its sister hotel with a lovely beach position and just something a little bit extra. We stayed in January for 14 nights.

From the impressive check-in when we were greeted by the charming General Manager, Marc Denton to our departure when again Marc and his team were there to see us off we genuinely felt that nothing was too much trouble. An example of this was when I asked what time the fitness centre was open and was told the opening times but that if I wanted to use it outside of these times to ring Reception and they would organise it. How many places do you get that "can do" attitude?

We stayed in 106 a pool villa with a lovely walled garden and view of the ocean. Very conveniently placed for the restaurant and bar. Comfortable sitting area within the bedroom, walk-in wardrobe and well equipped bathroom.Outside there was a shaded seating area and a lovely pool - more than a plunge pool but not quite a swimming pool.

We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast package based on the recommendation of various reviews on Tripadvisor. Breakfast was lovely with efficient service and for dinner we mainly ate in the restaurant with a couple of visits to "On the Rocks" which was a less formal experience but still very pleasant with food of a high quality. The menu in "On The Rocks" didn't change at all that we noticed but the Restaurant one changed over mid week. We were very impressed with the food quality and the service.

There is a well equipped gym that was never overly busy. I could find very little information about this on the internet so I have attached some photos.

If you are looking for a "party hard" hotel then I doubt that this will be the right environment for you. It was generally very quiet and the guests mainly consisted of older couples with a few families but for a relaxing, luxurious break I would thoroughly recommend it. We would both go back in a flash!

Room Tip: The pool villas in the 100's are very nicely spaced and not as dense as the pool villas in the 2...

“Almost Perfect!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

The Oberoi Mauritius, situated in the northern part of the beautiful little island of Mauritius, is truly a resort to die in!! Most of the rooms are in the form of cottages, hidden in midst of nature overlooking the beautiful blue waters of the Indian Ocean, giving us a fantastic view of the sunset. Few of the cottages have a personal garden and few have a personal pool and a garden as well. I strongly recommend the one with the pool, although its going to burn a large hole in your pocket. The staff is very cheerful, friendly and helpful. The serve nice cocktails on the beach and the shack next to it. Ideal place for a romantic gate away.
However, the food in the two restaurants lack variety and it can get a bit boring in the evenings if you are the party going types.
