“A holiday to remember”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

I have stayed at the La Pirogue hotel 2 times before, and my third visit certainly lived up to expectations. From the moment you walk in, you are welcomed. The management and staff are all excellent and cater for your every need, they are very friendly and helpful.

The rooms were very clean and the towels were replaced daily. The maids were excellent. The room was spacious and we felt very comforatable. I find that it is the little touches that add character, whether it being the thatched roofs on the rooms or the little plates of food bought to us every night before dinner that were immaculately presented.

The beach is beautiful and there are plenty of sunbed's to go round. The beach is a delight, and has got to be one of the best beaches that i have ever visited, the sea is always warm and very clear.

The food at the hotel was very tasty and we found that there was a lot of choice. Although after a week, the dinner's got a little repetitive. The evening entertainment was quite good, but sometimes got a bit boring and was the same every week.

The La Pirogue hotel is in an excellent location. Some local supermarkets were only a quick stroll down the road and we found that we could buy essentials quite cheaply. If you are planning on staying half board, i highly reccomend "Zub Station" (for lunch). It is near the supermarkets and offers traditional Mauritian/Indian cuisine at a reasonable price.

Overall my family and I had a wonderful stay at La Pirogue, and we will definitely be returning in the near future.

“Bride's dream wedding”

We got married on La Pirogue's beach jetty..
What can I say more above that it was fantastic location with friendly, helpful and profesional personnel?
Unfortunately their thatched cottages were fully booked so we had the reception there, but we stayed for wedding night next door(see my other reviews).
As we have chosen this place as a wedding venue purely by chance, when having a walk on Flic en Flac beach on the first day of our stay there, we were extremely happy with the service provided.
We came to Mauritius with wedding rings and bride's gown in our luggage but without anything else arranged whatsoever.
Trust me, it is possible to organize everything on the spot without hiring the wedding manager.
We stayed in the country for a month, our wedding was in the third week of our stay and with hired car we have managed to arrange flowers, cake, have my suits tailor made in 24h(excellent value for money), my wife's gown adjusted(tropical fruits and seafood diet made her even slimmer) and everything else without any worries.
La Pirogue assigned personal advisor to our wedding and his help was invaluable.
The hotel provides their own wedding venue in their lovely landscaped garden, with a small pond and heart-shaped seat for bride and groom, but we always wanted to have it barefooted on the each.
Thank you very much for unforgettable moments!

Room Tip: We have been inside their cottages and all of them were beautiful, if sometimes maybe to close to an...

“Paradise with flaws, a big hotel with character in an excellent location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

There are excellent aspects to La Pirogue. Fantastic location on a great beach that extends for miles. Never a problem finding umbrellas. Beach hawkers not relly a bother.. Excellent swimming in sea or pool which were never crowded. Rooms in thatched cottages arranged in small groups thus breaking down the large hotel in to small units. Wide range of activities are easily avaliable activities. Entertainment every evening. You are only conscious of the size of this hotel at mealtimes. They are busy with poor organisation. Great meal on Friday night lobster barbecue and one off chinese new year. Specialist Mauritian restauranr poor. Buffet excellent choice of dishes but of varied quality. Grounds of hotel wonderful. Paradise were it not for food, restaurant scrum and size. However this is reflected in the price. It costs less than 5 star super hotels on the island and offers less in terms of food and service. Based on Mauritian prices, which are high, La Pirogue offers good value a fantastic location, great ambience apart from retuarants and superb facilities.

“Too big to care!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

At over £200 a night they only provided tea & coffee on the first night, (we stayed for 7 nights) they charge for wifi and only printed our boarding cards after we made a fuss. They charge outragous amounts for bottled water, more than 5 times the price than the local shop. It's the little things like this that people remember, mean, greedy and petty.
No longer should be a four star, it's really only three, the buffet style restaurant has no greeter,so you have to wander around looking for a table to claim, they then do this old fashioned thing of placing your napkin on your knee, which you then have to take off and get your own food from the buffet. The other outdated thing is to insist the men wear long trousers for dinner even though many of the women were in shorts, flip flops or beach wear.
The staff varied greatly in their attitude, some really cared about you having a good holiday, others made you feel like a nuisance.
We had a good time and the facilities are excellent, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Room Tip: we had a standard room at the northern end and we were near the 'back exit' so it was handy...

“Best hotel in Mauritius”

La Pirouge is for sure on the best hotels if you would like to be away from big families. Location is perfect and the weather better on that side of the island. We stayed at other hotels, but nothing came to the same level as La Pirouge. Clean Beaches, Clean rooms, good service.
