“Meedhupparu - still lovely BUT...”

This was a second visit to Meedhupparu, We went the same time last year and loved it so much we immediately booked again. The new manager has instigated a lot of work on the grounds, which are looking lovely and the massage I had at the refurbished Chavana spa was bliss. With the new chef the food was even better - he maintains a great standard, particularly when considering the numbers he is catering for. Food was good quality, a great variety and unlike some resorts did not run out before the end of service. We loved Chef's Saturday afternoon cooking demos and are looking forward to trying his recipes. We had a wonderful, relaxed 2 weeks. BUT - until the work is completed on moving the seawall out to the edge of the reef we won't be going back unless an open, honest, tiered pricing system is in place. We have been lucky both times in being allocated a bungalow between south pier and the Sunrise Bar - without doubt the nicest part of the island. However, unless I could be sure that I would not be behind the wall, I could not commit that sort of money to a holiday - too stressful waiting to see what has been allocated. Finally a thank you to everyone who works on Meedhupparu for their courteous, friendly service, with a very special mention to Thomson/First Choice rep Gerard who is a true professional for whom nothing is too much trouble. .

Room Tip: Ask for a bungalow between the South Pier (or airport as we like to call it) and the Sunrise Bar by...

Thank you, we really appreciate your comments.
We are working very hard to improve our standards.
I would like to explain the comment about that we need have “open, honest, tiered pricing system is in place”, we have a very open, honest tiered pricing system is in place, all the tour operators know the island and they choose what category they want to sell, is totally different prices for Standard Villas, Beach Villas, Exotic Villas, Suit Villa plus we have different price and totally different product in our “Prestige” Water Villas.
I would recommend not only to you, to everyone when they book they holidays in our resort, make sure and ask to your travel agent about which type of villa they are going to book for you, the issue is if we get in the reservation standard villa and the travel agent didn’t inform to you that we have different categories of accommodation, there is where we have the problem, but all the tour operators know the different categories and prices…

“Dream honeymoon”

Do not believe the negative people who have nothing better to do than moan. This place was wonderful, we spent ages deciding because of the reviews but really had nothing to worry about. It really was a dream honeymoon. The staff are so polite and nothing is too much trouble. The snorkelling is great and the night fish feed at the end of the jetty brilliant. We met some amazing people and had some great nights at the beach party's and we wasn't in bed by nine like the rep said. The food was plentiful and a varied choice to suit everyone. We thought it was a bit strange that we shared a dinner table with two other guests but we got on really well with ours, however, other people had asked to move and this was no trouble. Don't forget anything though the shop is very expensive for stuff like sun cream and there really is nowhere else to go! We did ask to be moved from the sea wall and this was taken care of immediately it wasn't an issue. The outside showers were fab just watch out for the wildlife you will share a shower with a lizard!! This place really is like paradise watch out for the bats and take a walk along the beach at night and the water lights up with the plankton!! Relax and enjoy it is a world away from England! Would definately go back without hesitation.

“Holiday Heaven”

Cant beat this for a relaxing, nothing to do holiday. Brilliant service from waiters, room attendants and even the gardeners who swept up the leaves every day. Towels were changed every day, room was tidied and swept, bathroom was lovely with the open air shower. Although there was also a shower cubicle inside the bathroom as well.

Lovely walks in the interior of the island, cool and shaded by trees, enjoyed watching the fruit bats!!

The pool is lovely and its right on the beach, so you can swim in the sea and in the pool if you prefer. Hired a kayak and paddled right round the island. Snorkling is amazing and they also feed the fish every night which is brilliant. A very big turtle came every night and a very very big ray, together with hundred of other rather big fish.

One tiny little concern was the evening entertainment in the main bar, got a bit repetitive, but we just went to other bar.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms faced a sea wall, which in all honesty did not really detract from the overall hol...

“Don't Worry Be Happy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We have just returned home after 2 weeks at this lovely resort and quite honestly cannot think of anything negative that’s worth a mention.

Firstly, anyone who has taken the time to do any research on the Maldivian Islands will know that the vast majority of resorts have some form of sea defence in the form of walls and/or groynes, so Meed is not unique in that respect. The tides change with the monsoon periods and Mother Nature tries her hardest to reclaim the islands by constant erosion, so these resorts have no choice but to put up necessary barriers and that’s the fact.
At high tide the sea water comes over/through the sea wall leaving large pools of fresh sea water teeming with fish and other sea creatures so it’s definitely not stagnant! At other times you are just left with the dried out sea bed. The island in total is around 43 acres, the interior consists of natural sand pathways, gardens and jungle surrounded by fantastic white beaches and the warm Indian Ocean, so there is plenty of room for everyone to find their own bit of paradise.

The Exotic Village for the Russians consists of 25 rooms, which out of 235 rooms accounts for around 11%, not exactly overrun! They have their own Restaurant, but the Sunrise Beach Bar is open to all guests and we stopped and had drinks there most days on our walk around the island, and other people that we met drank there on an evening and had absolutely no problems. You can walk all the way around the island on the beach apart from where the Water Villas are, however you can cut through the beautiful gardens at the back which brings you out at the side of the swimming pool.

We went with First Choice and were allocated a room near the South Jetty where the sea planes land, it did not face the seawall so obviously First Choice customers do get other rooms even without a request. However we would not have been bothered in any case as the majority of the rooms are well set back on the beach and it’s not the eyesore some people make it out to be. The rooms are spacious and clean, the sheets and towels are changed daily, the beds and pillows are comfortable, the aircon/fan work well and there was plenty of hot water for showers, and that is more important to us than worrying about having to walk a stone’s throw to a sunbed on the beach with easier access to the sea.

The food was varied, well cooked and presented, on occasion you may have to wait a little for things to be replenished but that’s the same wherever you go, the staff also eat in the restaurant and that's got be a good sign and a big plus was no tummy troubles.

The cleanliness of the island, rooms and public areas was impressive considering you are on a desert island of sand surrounded by sea and all the staff from gardeners up to senior management were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. If you think this resort only warrants a 3 star, try a 4 star in Africa you may just change your opinion and give Meed 5 stars!

What we like about this island is the laid back no news no shoes vibe for you to rest and recharge your batteries in a natural jungle type environment with wall to wall sunshine and the warm Indian Ocean. There are water sports, diving and fishing available and you can obviously go snorkelling, however if you want more than that from a holiday then choose a more commercialised island that caters for that.

Of all the people we spoke to from newbies to returners, English or other nationalities no-one had a bad word to say about Meed, and to be honest I am pleased that the moaners won’t be returning as I wouldn’t want my holiday spoilt by having to listen to it when I return!

Honestly I don’t know what I can say…. It is a great pleasure for all Meedhupparu team to get this type of comments. Only I would like to specify one think, not all the staff eats in the restaurant, only the executive team is allow eating in the main restaurant, and always after certain time.
Thank you very much for appreciate our work and service.

“Amazing Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We visited the Maldives in September 2011 for our honeymoon. Our first bungalow was lovely but unfortunately we woke up to a family beside us screaming at each other and banging doors so we requested another bungalow and within an hour we had moved to a new bungalow and it was amazing, right on the beach literally walked out into the sea, room 607 I think it was. The room was a little dated than the first room but we didn't care that the AC didn't work and the toilet leaked because the location was fantastic. Staff were very friendly and they do expect to be tipped. The sea wall is not a big issue and needs to be done to protect the island. I would recommend a walk around the water villas the gardens are amazing. I would not really recommend the morning fishing, very boring except for the seeing some dolphins. The spa is amazing though definitely worth the money.

There is so much food you will find something to eat but I recommend trying everything... I would recommend the all inclusive, great value. I loved this place and hope to return again to the Island very soon
