“Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 May 2012 NEW

Returned to Kanahura with my daughter for a girl's week. Was there 5 years before, when it was part of the One and Only group and was a little anxious that perhaps it would've gone downhill. I couldn't have been more wrong. The staff are extremely attentive and make you feel like you are the most important people in the world. The general manager, Vladimir, knows everybody's name and is visible around the resort. Lots of little gifts and surprises throughout our week was a fabulous touch, such as the canapes and Prosecco along with a card, that was left in our room midweek to check that we were settling in and the little coconut shell dhoni (maldivian boat) as well as a couple of other items. We also looked forward to seeing what little sweet treat would be left in the little box in our room every night!
The management cocktail reception was another lovely touch with complimentary cocktails and canapes
We stayed in beach villa 101, which I feel has a perfect location on the east side of the beautiful island.
Yes, the furnishings are getting a little tired, but it is very well maintained and everything else on the resort really makes that irrelevant. The only negative we experienced was a less than attentive butler (allocated to your villa and your contact point for most things). Think we were just unlucky there.
The resort management try hard to provide variety in entertainment and events. They set up a disco on the beach one night for 70's and 80's music (though the DJ needs a lesson on the type of music to play to get people dancing!), they have a live band and even a little nightclub that opens one night a week (again the DJ wasn't very good and said he would play the "good" music later once the resort staff came along!).
The spa girls were super and we enjoyed a few very relaxing treatments.
The snorkelling immediately surrounding the island is not the best, but we still managed to see quite a variety of fish (there are excellent dive sites a short boat ride away though)
The highlights of our stay: The Maldivian drummers and singers who pulled us up to dance when they came into the bar one evening at sunset; the most incredible sunset ever that almost made us a cry with emotion and the management farewell (won't tell you about it because it would spoil the surprise!)

Room Tip: I think the beach villas on the east side are better. The beach is not so wide, so they are nearer t...

“Paradise - Absolute Beauty”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2012 NEW

ahhh... what should I start with... Let me start by saying that we have been to some of the great beaches in the asian region e.g. Bali, Mauritius, Malaysia, Andmans etc.. This one was way far above the rest. Amazing beauty all around, picture perfect beaches, well kept resort, excellent service, small glitches here & there but I expect that from humans. Best part of this holiday was the white sand private beach, crystal clear water and the service we got. I did comparison with other hotels and definitely you get all the worth back in this one.

So... Apart from a great beach line, they have given me a 1 night free in the package. Starting from the point I emailed them to the see-off, it was great service. There is high visibility of management, you would see them coming over and solicit feedback all the time (they would know all about you). They normally do not make indian food, but they came over asked our preferences and we got indian food made for us the way we like it, especially the tea. There is a different way how some north indians make their tea, we told them and the restaurant manager himself made it every morning for us, that was fabulous. Spa was great, relaxed and polished. Pool has a great view of ocean. They also have golf cart to bring you from your villas to the other places of hotel and they do not mind waiting and keep coming again & again to pick you or drop you, it is a big island for multiple walks in a day. We stayed at beach villa and it was up to international standards, we got continuous gifts from the management at different points. The entire resort has sands all over it; right outside the villa, in the bar around restaurants and the walk-ways. The sun-set side is more windy and more moving. You would hear sea planes landing and taking off, medium level noise for just a minute and not more. The other side of the island has over water villas and more relaxed beach and still water as proceed by artificial walls. There are a lot of fish around the jetty, you can throw fish food (available there) and see them make a splash. The only thing that is naturally not so good is that you can't see Sun setting in the ocean from this island, there is another island which obstructs the view, but not at all a loss.

Snorkeling points are like 15-30 minutes far (via speed boat) from the island and they are absolutely beautiful. They have got all types of water sports and diving facilities. I did try "discover scuba" but not for long, but it is definitely something that I would do it again and the full certification course this time.

Again;

Island - 5 star
Resort - 5 star
Service - 5 star (extra-ordinary)
Cleanliness - 5 star
Food - 5 star

Thanks Kanuhura, for a memorable holiday.

Room Tip: Over Water Villa - You do not have a choice, they are towards the sun rise side of the island but th...

“Kanuhura, one of the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2012

Just booking a holiday and using trip advisor reminds me to add some reviews, even though they are a bit late.
Kanuhura is very nice indeed with high standards in all areas including food and service. It is one of the first 5* island and some aspects could do with an update, but no reason not to go. The new manager promises some updates. The beach is wonderful, natural with no sandbags, with a distinct ocean side (East/sunrise) and a lagoon side (West/sunset). Snorkelling is not great off the beach, but the private island with lunch restaurant 300 metres away is a bonus with shuttle boat to take you back and forth. The villas are perhaps a little close together, (but this is probably standard for many islands) so some of the private “gardens” down to the direct beach access are a bit narrow. WIFI is only available at the main complex, so the bar gets a bit like an internet café at times, our room had a wired internet connection but this is no use for a phone or some tablets. The main buffet restaurant is excellent and 2 other restaurants provide a break from the buffets, though the Italian one was really not that great (you can have the lunch menu in the evening, if you ask ! which increases the choice). The restaurant at the northern tip of the island was very good, need to book several days aread. Clientele is varied from Russia, Europe and the Far East. It’s quite a large island (walk round in 30-40 mins) so there are sometimes as many as 6 seaplane arrivals a day on the lagoon side as guests come and go, but we were on that side and it was not a problem. Transfers from Male Airport were quick and effortless. It IS expensive, but standard for Maldives. Plently of children when we were there, but they were not intrusive.
All in all an excellent resort, relaxed and friendly staff with high standards, not perhaps absolutely 5*, but certainly 4.5* plus. We would certainly go back. I will add some pictures when I can find them.

Room Tip: Rooms are East or West, all have direct beach access, East faces the sunrise and the ocean with the...

“heaven”

from the moment we stepped off the seaplane it was heaven. We were greeted by management which is a nice touch.. pure white beaches and crystal clear water. we stayed in a water bungalow, and realxing on our hammocks over the water feeding the fish were amazing. we also enjoyed snorkelling a couple of times around our bungalow and saw so many colourful fish. We travelled with our 5 year old and he practically lived at the kids club he loved it, so much to do, even in the evening they took him for his meals, (his choice not ours), and we got to have lots of romantic dinners on the beach... Sunrise is on the water villa side, beautiful and sunsets on the restaurant side, soo beautiful.. We always saw management around who remembered our names, and the staff always remembered our sons name.. Our afternoons were spent lounging at the beach bar, where we received excellent service.. We did indulge in a couple of times at the spa for a massage, and I had the best massage I've had anywhere, and was even put to sleep with one of them.. I unfortunately do not remember our housekeepers name, but he excellent, at night bringing us juice and cookies before bed and even one night scattering rose pettles on our bed in a heart shape, a lovely touch.. Only one word for me to describe the place.. AMAZING!! Before we left my husband and I were discussing when we will be back again...

Room Tip: water villas are on the sunrise side and are very quiet.
