Returned to Kanahura with my daughter for a girl's week. Was there 5 years before, when it was part of the One and Only group and was a little anxious that perhaps it would've gone downhill. I couldn't have been more wrong. The staff are extremely attentive and make you feel like you are the most important people in the world. The general manager, Vladimir, knows everybody's name and is visible around the resort. Lots of little gifts and surprises throughout our week was a fabulous touch, such as the canapes and Prosecco along with a card, that was left in our room midweek to check that we were settling in and the little coconut shell dhoni (maldivian boat) as well as a couple of other items. We also looked forward to seeing what little sweet treat would be left in the little box in our room every night!
The management cocktail reception was another lovely touch with complimentary cocktails and canapes
We stayed in beach villa 101, which I feel has a perfect location on the east side of the beautiful island.
Yes, the furnishings are getting a little tired, but it is very well maintained and everything else on the resort really makes that irrelevant. The only negative we experienced was a less than attentive butler (allocated to your villa and your contact point for most things). Think we were just unlucky there.
The resort management try hard to provide variety in entertainment and events. They set up a disco on the beach one night for 70's and 80's music (though the DJ needs a lesson on the type of music to play to get people dancing!), they have a live band and even a little nightclub that opens one night a week (again the DJ wasn't very good and said he would play the "good" music later once the resort staff came along!).
The spa girls were super and we enjoyed a few very relaxing treatments.
The snorkelling immediately surrounding the island is not the best, but we still managed to see quite a variety of fish (there are excellent dive sites a short boat ride away though)
The highlights of our stay: The Maldivian drummers and singers who pulled us up to dance when they came into the bar one evening at sunset; the most incredible sunset ever that almost made us a cry with emotion and the management farewell (won't tell you about it because it would spoil the surprise!)
