“First time Club Med, lasting memorable experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Just back from Maldives Club Med Kani 2 days ago with my wife. It feels so surreal about the whole experience... Initially before the trip, I treat this as just another one of those usual holiday trips -- how wrong I was. Over the 6D5N there, the familiar faces of other customers and the famous GOs/GEs, the Club Med experience and activities just grew on us as the days goes by. As my wife would put it, Club Med shows you how to put aside your hectic lifestyle and work, and just simply relax.

The daily "crazy sign" (sets of 15-20 min dance activities daily), the friendliness of the GOs/GEs, the night performances, the beach and water activities, the crystal blue water, and the sun, just rubs on us... Some of the staff/GOs whom we still miss now are Lolo (Assistant Chief Head) whom always manage to motivate, and spur the crowd during day and night activities every single day without fail, and Kenny (the GO in charge of aqua aerobics and beach volleyball), and Gaiz (Boutique staff).

Meals are all-inclusive, 3 main buffet meals daily, with in-between tea breaks and yes, it's a haven for those of you beer/cocktail/wine drinkers, free flow!!

Every day has different activities with various time schedules, sailing, snorkelling, diving, local excursion trips, beach volleyball, beach badminton, soccer, basketball, ping pong, gym, yoga, cookery lessons, singing lessons, bakery lessons, simply too many to list down here...

The deluxe beach resort hut we stayed is pretty good, with less than 100m to the beach and sea. Room amenities are there, and the GEs twice a day makes our room without fail. Room is also generally clean. However, the deluxe beach resort rooms we chose seemed a bit aged and the shower area floor showed some stains with a bit of musty smell in the shower area.

On the day of departure, due to a miscommunication between the reception staff and us, this caused us to miss our speedboat to the airport in the morning, leading to us having to take the night flight instead. Because of this, we have to pay USD$20/pax for the flight change and caused me to make alternative arrangements for my next day of work. In this aspect, perhaps the staff could have make extra efforts in ensuring the correct information be communicated to all departing guests on our days of depature.

Still, despite some of these hiccups, the overall experience for me and my wife is very positive. Even after 2 days since our return to Singapore, the songs and dancing experience during one of those "Crazy Sign" times (led by Lolo) still haunts and kept playing in our mind.

For those of you not yet tried Club Med, you don't know what you have missed!! Even now, I and my wife are already looking out for deals of other Club Meds at their Club Med website..

If I must summarise the whole Club Med experience in just 1 sentence, this would be:
"6 days of heaven on earth in Club Med Kani, now back on mortal earth and reality"...

Room Tip: If you're looking at more peaceful environment and lesser human traffic, choose the deluxe beach...

“Club Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Awesome place!! Bi-daily snorkeling excursions, close to dive sites, crystal clear waters and tropical island paradise!! There is always something to do on this island. The staff have a different daily activity plan. From 9am till 22h30!!

Some of the activities: snorkeling, badminton, Boole, kayaking, sailing, jet skiing, shirt painting, table tennis, board games, volleyball, water polo, netball, water aerobics, there is a gym, scuba diving (euro diver), sushi lessons, day snorkeling trips, trip to Male, there are more items but I just cant remember.

However it is an island and if it were to rain, it limits your day a bit. We had two days of rain, but we stilled dived, played table tennis and enjoyed the night activities but more than two days of rain would get irritating.

Stayed on a lagoon suite for 9 days. These suites defined the trip. They are situated 2m above the sea. Sea life comes and goes freely right under your feet. Numerous rays, reef sharks and many fish passed by, these were viewed either from our balcony or from the pathway to our room.

Food is 3 meal inclusive buffets. Food was fantastic. Very good variety, even had sushi 80% of the nights. Bar is all inclusive, my only complaint is that their cocktails are too senthectically sweetened but others seemed to be enjoying them so probably just my taste.

Highly recommened this resort!! Whether you are active or not there is lots to do and a beautiful place to enjoy!!

Room Tip: Either Lagoon or away normal room away from the main area.

“What a holiday...!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

We were at Kani for a week between Dec 30th and Jan 6th. Little to say if not "we want to go back soon!!"
The 800-metre long island is small (although they told us big for Maldives standards...), the infrastructure excellent, personnel always careful to make us feel special. Especially some of the GOs were particularly friendly both with us and our children. Although there was no specific enterteinment for the youngsters, our kids (15, 15, 11 year old) managed to find some friends and to enjoy the vacation.
New year'e eve was memorable, great party and lots of dancing!
We did have some small issue with the chief du village, but managed to solve it quickly (and at Club Med staff rotate every season...). Also, great cuisine! Something never to forget is how good you can eat during the holiday. Here, a nice mix of international plates were always available (from japanese, to chinese, from italian to french, without forgetting local specialities...).
Of course the sea and the fishes were just amazing. We did snorkeling almost every day and the variety of corals and sea life we could see was breathtaking!
To summarize it all: you have to try!!

Room Tip: Rooms on the sea are very nice, but overpriced for what you get. We had rooms on the beach/garden an...

“Great place but a bit disapponted”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

It has been my 18th time in a Club Med'.
I went there as a child, as teenager, as an adult and now as a parent.
I do agree all the previous reviewers:
- stunning beaches, postcard like
- standard and deluxe rooms clean and comfortable, (although for the price payed, the Sofitel in Mauritius would give you a Junior suite..) but definitely in need of a deep renovation
- lagoon suite NOT WORTH the price (too close to the evening bar/disco and too close to each other)
- GO (staff; GO=Gentils Organisateurs) most of them friendly, helpful and funny
- reception staff (except for Kalo) with very bad English and/or French knowledge, sometimes they had to call for help after 5mn worthless explanations (and I do speak English, French, Spanish and Italian fluently...)
- Restaurants: great buffet, with excellent food, although half of the employees have nice smiles but do not understand at all what you're looking for (so the GO need to either help you out or just get what you need on their behalf...!)
- Snorkeling: twice a day, well organised and on beautiful spots
- Excursions: quite expensive but I would really recommend the "Blue Lagoon" one, as you'll be visiting a small Maldivian village, buy some nice (and cheap) souvenirs, have some time lingering on a long beach and on the way back you'll be snorkeling on a fantastic spot (ask for Katia as a guide, she's very good)
- Daytime and evening activities: very limited, but the Go do make an extra effort and you'll end up dancing the "Crazy Signs" every evening....and enjoying it a lot :-)

My overall opinion is good.
My recommendation is: don't go with teenagers kids, load yourself with A LOT of patience in dealing with people at reception and in the restaurant and enjoy the beach, the sun and your unforgettable holiday

Last but not least: AVOID traveling with QATAR!!!

Room Tip: for the beach front rooms, avoid the ones on the sailing side for the lagoon suite, only the furthe...

“Excellent family vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Our family of 4 - with 2 teenagers aged 15 & 18 - didn't want to leave when our 1-week vacation ended. It took us a day or two to settle in before we could chill & relax fully but the holiday kind of grew on us. Instead of being bored with the facilities/activities, we became increasingly comfortable with the familiar surroundings and faces.
I wouldn't advise families with young children (below 10) to visit this Club Med - not enough activities for them & they are unlikely to pass the fairly stringent swimming tests required for the sailing & snorkelling activities. The sea conditions (stinging saltiness, waves & currents) made the swim test more challenging than what we would normally expect in a swimming pool - I've seen adults (not strong swimmers/beginners) being turned away after failing the test each day when we turned up for the water activities. Snorkelling (the free ones twice a day) was so-so; have see better snorkelling sites in Asia. The optional tours were expensive. Sailing & kayaking was fun and available any time you want (before 5pm).

The food was wonderful throughout our 1-week stay. There was plentiful food & drinks throughout the day. We really enjoyed the aqua aerobics at 11.45am each day & the sunset beach activities. There's a pair of very good Filipino singers whose beautiful voices made the sunset even more memorable. The Chef de Village JB & his deputy Lolo worked really hard to keep the guests happy & engaged.

Although there's wireless internet connection at reception area, it's so slow that it gets frustrating at times.

We will definitely visit Club Med again after this fantastic vacation at Club Med Kani.

Room Tip: We had beach villas 53 and 54 - right next to the sea & nice location away from the crowd -facin...
