“An oasis of calm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2012

We stayed here for 5 days in December as the relaxing start to a mad 'round the world in 20 days' trip!! It was indeed everything I expected a Maldivian holiday to be - and more.

From the arrival & transfer by speedboat, complete with cold flannels & an ice cold bottle of water. To the arrival in resort process with more flannels & iced tea; then transfer to our Deluxe room by golf buggy. The room was beautiful, with the open air bathroom & shower a delightful experience. Throughout the stay, the staff was friendly & accommodating, nothing was a problem to them, in fact I can't praise them enough. From the reception staffs, chefs, bar staffs to the housekeeping staffs, they certainly enhanced our experience.

We were on the All Inclusive (but not dine around) plan, however we were free to eat in the other restaurants, for a 30% discount & our drinks were still free. The Ocean Grill was fabulous; the Beef Carpaccio was to die for, followed by fabulously fresh fish.

Snorkelling equipment was free to hire & well worth it. As the private sheltered bays around the island are havens for all of the beautiful tropical reef fish, just awesome.

Apparently the resort was full, as we were there just before Christmas, but you really couldn't tell. The beaches were quiet, no big groups of people & the only time you really saw people was in the main restaurant for breakfast. The bar was quite busy on occasion, but we did wonder where all of these people disappeared to during the day....

Yes, it is close to the airport, but we saw this as a positive in respect of transfer times & also from a smug point of 'we're over here enjoying our quiet beach, with cocktails & not in the busy city'!! No problems with noise.

In all it was the oasis of calm we expected & thoroughly enjoyed. We would recommend it to anyone & can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Rooms located on the opposite side to the reception, bar, restaurants etc (South I think); quieter...

“Relax”

Recently stayed heer. Close to airport so some noise but easy transfer if going for short stay. Choice of great Restaurants, snorkelling very good. We went for all in deal with no extra charge for drinks and (most) foods. Saved us some money and felt good to have already paid up front. We would def recommend this resort.

“Wonderfully Relaxing Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012 via mobile

Typing up this review as I lie on the Kurumba beach awaiting my departure back to the airport. Been here for 11 nights on my honeymoon and had the most relaxing time. Stayed in a deluxe bungalow with sea views. Originally we were allocated room 252 but, despite being a few metres from the waters edge, all we could see was the trees and other vegetation which were inbetween. We asked to be moved and our request was duly granted. The next room was set back from the beach but with considerably more privacy outside our porch. Best room locations appear to be adjacent to Sand Bar and we'd request one of these if we were to return.

We stayed on a B&B basis with a view to reviewing that after a few days if we felt we'd get better value on the All-inclusive deals. As it turned out it was proved we made the right decision at the outset.

The food in the themed restaurants was not always to our liking, with the Indian one and the Ocean Grill being the ones we'd give pass marks to. The Chinese and the Italian never quite hit the spot. We never tried the Hamikaze or Al Qasr.

Most nights we settled for something from the reasonably priced Kurumba Cafe menu and the food there was more typical of what we'd eat back home. We felt this also represented better value for money than the Buffet Restaurant which was reportedly $60pp.

Breakfast was fairly average and we had no complaints although we felt there could have been more of a selection. The Champagne Breakfast is available for a $15pp premium and seems good value for money. We received ours on my birthday courtesy of a very generous offer from Jason (resort manager) and we were very grateful.

The water around the beach is ideal for snorkelling and there is plenty of tropical fish among the corals. For relative beginners like me it was a great training ground and I felt very comfortable at all times.

The Sunset Dolphin Cruise was a great experience but the Sunset Fishing trip was a bit of a letdown. Then again perhaps if I'd caught something I'd think differently.

Overall the experience we had was a positive one. The staff always have a smile on their face and were always keen to give you what you wanted. The rooms were tended to twice a day and were always spotless. If like us you are celebrating a birthday or honeymoon then the evening turndown service also included creative floral displays on the bed which was welcomed.

While we've been here there's also been a bit of political unrest in nearby Male but the hotel were quick to issue notification to residents that this would not affect Kurumba. This was reassuring as news filtered through.

The resort may be old and it may have planes taking off over it but this never had any impact on our enjoyment and when you've been looked after the way we feel we have then there's always a chance we'll return.

“Excellent in every way”

Just returned from 4 nights in a deluxe beach villa on all inc dine around option. Lovely villa, amazing bathroom, great food and drink, very relaxing, resort full but didn't seem so. Great snorkelling. 10 mins from airport by boat which is why we chose this resort for a short break. Spa open contrary to UK press. Couldn't fault.
