We picked Baros for our wedding anniversary. Incidentally, this was our first ever trip to the Maldives. A great experience, the hotel scored 9 out of 10 for us. The speedboat transfer from the airport works really well: Once we had our bags and left the luggage hall, there was somebody from the resort greeting us, and it was the nonly a very short walk to the boat. Another 20mins later we arrived on the island. We did not 100% like the villa we were shown, but could move into one in a nicer position without any hassle. The Baros Villa we had was very special; we liked the bathroom that was partly a garden. The interior was really nice, a high ceiling, good quality surfaces and furniture throughout. Our villa was cleaned twice a day. We had direct beach access - again the beach area was cleaned and raked daily. Do not go if you are not interested in seeing some of the underwater wildlife, the house reef here is very nice, its just steps away from the sunloungers !
Three restaurants on the island, we liked the Lime with its choice of Asian cuisine. We did not have a single dish that disappointed. We found the Lighthouse bar to be the best place for an after dinner drink. In summary, this is a five star resort island and it lives up to that in all aspects. Just one suggestion: Some of the activities appear not to be priced right; for example we did not see a single dolphin on the sunset dolphin cruise, but got charged a lot for cruising an hour and a half at high speed through choppy waters in search of the elusive creatures. It was also not everyone's taste to have a glass of champagne on the back of the boat (not a great boat either, more like a small ferry) at the end, maybe feeling a little seasick.
For full appreciation of the marine environment we highly recommend to attend Verena's (resort marine biologist) evening lecture, and also to join Verena on one of the snorkelling safaris. The latter are much more appropriately priced and we got some very good information from Verena on the things we saw on the trip (dolphins were included, too, but that was pure luck ).
We would love to go back at some point, a really great place for a special holiday.
Room Tip: We were very happy with the Baros villa and would book one again. Choose a Water villa for maximum...
