Went to Baros, via Dubai, to celebrate my 40th birthday. Stayed in a deluxe villa, which was in a private location. Accommodation and beach were excellent. Enjoyed a nice cup of Earl Grey each morning with our friend, Kanbili, a very vocal water chicken. Birthday could not have been better. Staff decorated the room while we were having our sandbank breakfast. Had a signature massage at the spa, which was fantastic (thanks to Ari), swam with a 6-foot reef shark and then finished off the day with the degustation menu and wine pairing at Lighthouse. Best birthday bar none. Rest of the week was spent sunning and snorkelling. Would recommend the sunset dolphin cruise, the seafood buffet at Cayenne and cocktails at Sails. Very private holiday. Interacted more with staff than guests, which suited us perfectly (staff could not do enough). Great there were no kids. Have stayed in some of the finest hotels in the world and Baros is right up there. Also, Baros is not expensive...if you budget correctly (seems some people arrived unprepared).

Room Tip: Deluxe villa 108 was superb.

“Baros is the Best - No Contest!”

This review is a bit belated, but we have been meaning to post it since we got back and after reading the awful and entirely misguided and silly review below - stirred us into action! We visited Baros in December 2011 for a two-week stay. Prior to our arrival I requested several surprises for my boyfriend, now fiance! (We got engaged on the sunset dolphin cruise one of the surprises and very pleasurable might I add) I emailed the hotel directly and Farshaan front of house manager promptly and politely replied assuring me he would take care of my requests and keep them a secret!
The food in the lighthouse is amazing and we dined here almost every night - though the other restaurants were good too, we just loved the Lighthouse - also due to the service of the very lovely Julie and Rifat (THE BEST WAITER EVER!!!)
Breakfast was always a pleasure, Lilian and Abu were present and made our morning a happy one - the chefs were great too and always cooked our eggs exactly how we liked them. Make sure you have the Prosecco with breakfast at least once before you leave!!
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and any small problems (we had a problem with our air con) were attended too immediately and we received a complimentary bottle of wine - which we enjoyed as we DO drink!!! So thanks!!
Special thanks and acknowledgement to the great friendly and SINCERE staff, the housekeepers on the water villas - which were amazing by the way! Jose the gardener! - Bar staff Ibrahim, Vijay (and Shuhan we'll be back to have that drink with you this year!!) and the lovely ladies in the spa who gave us the most AMAZING back massages ever!!! Basically - I could go on and on - One thing - do the Sandbank dinner - it is a once in a lifetime experience, in our case, we're making it a regular thing as life is too short. Yes it's expensive, but the accommodation, setting, food and service make it worth it. End of story! We will be back and can't wait to see everyone again. Thanks guys! Ellie and Rocky xx

We spent three full days and two nights at Baros in Nov 2011. It was amazing!! Everything went so smoothly. We were greeted at the airport and quickly put on the boat to the island which is only a few steps away from the airport. We were at Baros in no time. We stayed in a Deluxe Villa which was perfect. We had our own little private beach and I loved the outdoor shower! Every staff person we met was great and bent over backwards to make our stay perfect. The snorkeling was spectacular and we took full advantage of the free snorkel gear. We loved all of the restaurants where the food and service were great. We did the sandbank dinner which was unreal!! It really is a must!! I had a 2 hour spa treatment (the Marine Seaweed Trio Ritual) which was great, but probably would have been better if I hadn't gotten a sunburn before. :) We also did the sunset dolphin cruise which was so cool. I loved seeing the dolphins jumping & spinning out of the water and swimming along side the boat. Great vacation and I would love to go back!

Room Tip: I would choose one of the villas on the beach versus a water villa. You don't have your own bea...

“Something for a special occasion”

We picked Baros for our wedding anniversary. Incidentally, this was our first ever trip to the Maldives. A great experience, the hotel scored 9 out of 10 for us. The speedboat transfer from the airport works really well: Once we had our bags and left the luggage hall, there was somebody from the resort greeting us, and it was the nonly a very short walk to the boat. Another 20mins later we arrived on the island. We did not 100% like the villa we were shown, but could move into one in a nicer position without any hassle. The Baros Villa we had was very special; we liked the bathroom that was partly a garden. The interior was really nice, a high ceiling, good quality surfaces and furniture throughout. Our villa was cleaned twice a day. We had direct beach access - again the beach area was cleaned and raked daily. Do not go if you are not interested in seeing some of the underwater wildlife, the house reef here is very nice, its just steps away from the sunloungers !
Three restaurants on the island, we liked the Lime with its choice of Asian cuisine. We did not have a single dish that disappointed. We found the Lighthouse bar to be the best place for an after dinner drink. In summary, this is a five star resort island and it lives up to that in all aspects. Just one suggestion: Some of the activities appear not to be priced right; for example we did not see a single dolphin on the sunset dolphin cruise, but got charged a lot for cruising an hour and a half at high speed through choppy waters in search of the elusive creatures. It was also not everyone's taste to have a glass of champagne on the back of the boat (not a great boat either, more like a small ferry) at the end, maybe feeling a little seasick.
For full appreciation of the marine environment we highly recommend to attend Verena's (resort marine biologist) evening lecture, and also to join Verena on one of the snorkelling safaris. The latter are much more appropriately priced and we got some very good information from Verena on the things we saw on the trip (dolphins were included, too, but that was pure luck ).
We would love to go back at some point, a really great place for a special holiday.

Room Tip: We were very happy with the Baros villa and would book one again. Choose a Water villa for maximum...
