“nice and beautiful island, but average hotel and no snorkeling possibility”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I stayed one week into the Holiday Island Resort. I found that despite affordable prices, the quality of rooms was nice. Air condition is working very properly, but furnitures and decoration was not enhanced since the resort creation in 1994. This is particularly noticable in the public areas, such as at the bar, at the buffet restaurant.
There were a lot of russian and german tourists.
Overall, the staff was very nice and always helpful with a smile.
My main regret was that there is no possible to do any decent snorkeling directly from this Island. You have to pay for a snorkeling trip, or travel to the next island called "Sun Island" were good snorkeling can be done.
Otherwise, Holiday Island is very beautiful, lot of nature, palm trees, extremely beautiful beaches.
Lastly, I would like to point out that on the Island, side where the snorkeling boats are departing, there is the power generator running with diesel. This engine is loud and appears to drop a lot of pollution in the air. Very unpleasant.

Room Tip: Ask to be located in a bungalow that will be very far away from the noisy and polluting power genera...

“beach from paradise, hotel from nightmare, Holidays only for people who like peace and quite”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

Me and my husband stayed at holiday island 9th january 2012 for a week. The beach and jetty are stunning! It's true paradise!!!it's 5 * beach!!!!!!!
But hotel is nightmare! Reception looks like in cheap motel,Hotel's stadard is very poor!!!very poor service as well!!!!
Restaurant is a joke! You are signed to one tabel for whole stay...but You're not seeting alone but with some strangers!!!!It was so akward!! We were fighting for 2 days and finally got our own table!
Food is nice but there is no choice!!!!buffet is poor!
We had hb and it was ok ( all inc was 800 pounds more-not worth it)...
we had nice pizza every day( 13 dollars)in lunch time and bought water( 4 usd for bottle, small coca cola is 5usd)

Rooms aren't very nice as well -old tv, old fridge everything is falling apart.
They only thing I liked was bathroom!with outside private shower!!!brilliant!!!!! there's nothing more relaxing than taking shower and enjoying view of palms and birds.
Jetty side of island is nicer(better rooms)but we had room on other side(whithout sea view) but it wasn't too bad. we had to pass some island plants to get to beach. It wasn't as nice as jetty side, it has more reefs and view on other island( airport) which is noisy cause of some construction but weirdly it didn't bother me,I enjoyed relaxing there cause on the other side it was somethimes just to quite;)
This island is ONLY for people who enjoy peace and quiet holidays, who just want to relax!!!
There is absolutely no entertement on island, no swimming pool, no music.
We couldn't get to other islands(which was weird)we were planning to vistit cocoa island, but no chance! We could just vist Sun Island(free transfer few times a day) which was very nice. Sun Island was only 20 pounds more expensive than Holiday Island, but was much better. Better reception, restaurants..it's bigger, more things to do..there swimming pool..You can hire a bike for 3 usd a day, brillant!
If You want to choose Holiday Island, don't!!! Insteed go to Sun Island cause it's better and have a trip few times(if You like) to visit Holiday Island.

Room Tip: jetty side of island

“Worst service from management. Definately not 4star!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

Just returned from Maldives and our experience was made terrible by management. The island is fine and view of ocean beautiful, but nothing else going for it.

1) Due to delays in flights, got to hotel past midnight, instead of midday, so missed half board meal. Manager Mr Nazeeh said he could not give us food, even though we paid for it in our package, as we missed the buffet meal time. 4 star hotel service would have gone out of their way to make you comfortable, esp after 27hrs or so of travelling. I have travelled alot, and never received such poor service from a suppossedly 4star hotel.

2) Had booked seaplane transfers to and from Male, as everyone says its great experience. Got a domestic flight instead. No apology again from hotel. Simply response of 'we stopped seaplanes from 1st Nov, 1st Oct'....they could not quite make up their minds of when they had stopped they service - and yet continue to advertise it on their hotel information channel in the hotel rooms, and are still happy to take money for seaplane transfers from travelagents.....our agent tried to book one after we informed them of the problems we had, and the booking was still accepted it. However Holiday Island management said they had informed all their travel agents...clearly not! Asked for a written letter to confirm seaplanes had been stopped, and it was like getting blood out of a stone. Mr Nazeeh refused to give anything in writing....the only reason I can assume for this, is because they are either giving out wrong info, or taking money for a service they do not provide.

3) Lack of loungers and umbrella shades. Only lounger are available to use are the ones outside your room with your room number on it, and the lounger mattress also has room number. Very few shades available, so if you see one, have to move your lounger yourself to it, or use someone else's lounger providing they are not there - else you'll get told to move. Also if you ask for a shade umbrella, get told by management that everyone comes to Maldives for the sun, which is great, but we don't all want skin cancer, so want some shade in peak sun hrs.

4) Resort is very money orientated not customer service focused. We were told by Mr Nazeeh that our return transfer was not booked, even though I had proof from my travel agent. He said he needed an additional voucher, that acts like cash for them. Without it, he can't do anything. Not the best service from a 4star hotel. To inform group of girls that they will not be able to get home and will have to miss their flight back from Male. Any other good hotel would have said not to worry, and that they'll sort it all out....just enjoy the Maldives whilst you are there. But not this one. Instead they make the customer run around phoning/txting/emailing my own travel agent to try and resolve the situation.

5) Lack of vegetarian food at buffets. Even on asking, you get shrug of shoulders. Wasn't till the last days that our waiter said something special could be made for me. Which makes you wonder why they didn't offer this to begin with, when they can clearly see you are having nothing for dinner, except a bread roll. Even the salad had fish mixed in.

6) Went to celebrate a birthday, and got travel agent to email ahead to try and do something special. Asking Mr Nazeeh if he had anything arranged, was informed no email had been received. But after he actually checked, he realised he had been passed the information. It seems that no one wants to check the correct arrangements you may have made, in the hope that you forget about them and they do not have to give you any extra service. Again no apology to say he had got the info already and had missed seeing it.

7) They want to get you out of the room even before official check out time, which is midday, but insist you give the keys back by 9am. And they tell you directly, it's because they have a big group arriving so need to start getting the rooms ready. So resulted in us waiting around in reception area for an hour then transferred to the airport and waited further hr and half before needed, just so the hotel had our rooms emptied.

8) Only positive it about the diving centre - all very pleasant and helpful there.

Overall impression-

-Mr Nazeeh was being extremely unhelpful, not polite in the slightest, did not even smile at us to greet us. Feeling of discrimination against us because of race and sex. He was able to speak to Caucasian couple very pleasantly...shook their hands, smiled and laughed with them. But did not behave the same with us. Was rude and kept making irrelevant comments about indians not working properly and thats why the transfer hadn't been booked correctly.

-Do not stay here if you are vegetarian / go as a female group/ are of indian origin.

-If you need to speak to management ask for Mr Zahir - he tried to help us, and is polite - providing the kind of service you expect from a manager and generally a 4 star hotel. He was the one who actually tried to assist us, and directed Mr Nazeeh to provide letters we needed for our travel agent etc. And helped sort out umbrella shades and birthday dinner.

-This is the worst 4 star hotel I have been to. On appearance and room and view it would be 4 star, but on service and how the unhelpful the reservation manager is, it should be rated 1 star at the most. I have travelled alot and it's the people that make the places great. I cannot say this for the Maldives, which is a shame, as for most individuals this is a trip of a lifetime.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with good beach strip in front. Some rooms had just an arms length. They are building...

“Amazing relaxed holiday”

Our holiday in Holiday Island was amazing! We had the all-in and where very glad we took it! It's very expensive to go out of the all-in, water is like 4 dollar for 1 bottle! We had discounts on some thing if we asked it nice. We had an all-in list to choose our drinks like, water, coke(light), sprite, coctails, beer and more than enough for us! The food was amazing, very very good!! variabel! For everybody something! We had a very friendly weither, roomboy but we gave them everytime some money because they where so loyal to us! We loved the trips but also the silence and rest at the beach! We had the first room (hated the airco and minibar, very loud when you sleeping) on the jettyside so we had a very private bungalow (the first bungalow) we really loved our private 'little' beach and the peace! Sea was a dream! I will go back!!!!!!

“Awesome holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2011

We went to Holiday Island last year and loved it. We requested to be near the jetty and they placed us write next to it which was good and I would advise this! The rooms were pretty basic but good - the outside shower was awesome even with the lizards. The food was amazing and varied although at lunch there tended to be lots of flies but not much they can do about that.

The only negative was that I felt cocktails and a few other things should be part of the all-inclusive. Also Monarch were terrible, poor service and both flights I sat apart from my girlfriend. Get to the airport early in order to get good seats or pre-book! Although you don't have much control over what time you will get to the airport on return, we had a seaplane but were last there as it had a delayed arrival

I would advise buying decent snorkels before you get there. Also, I would advise buying a lilo beforehand as we ended up buying ones out there that were expensive and didn't work.

I visited Sun Island quite a lot which is nice but I'm glad i didn't stay there as it was so big and didn't have so much of a maldives feel.
