“Superchill”

Village House is a perfect place to do very little. Down an unmarked track just outside the village of Santubong, there really isn't anything to do except relax in a hammock, swim in the gorgeous pool, browse the books and magazines in the upstairs 'library' and amble the two minutes to the beach at sunset (it's not really a sitting beach, as there's no shade, no loungers, etc). Service is pleasantly understated and there's a good selection of food, including a five-course banquet of local specialities (pre-order!), and the rooms are stylishly decorated and very well maintained. The best suite has its own massive terrace, separate living/sleeping areas and a huge TV that you can flip round to face either. Perhaps the only downside is that it's not exactly cheap, but it is worth it - once you're there, you won't want to leave (we've extended our planned stay before, as did some friends who came to visit). Definitely the classiest option in the Damai/Santubong area.

“Perfect place, good place for relax, tasty food!”

Well organized place, very well maintaned. Spotless clean, friendly and helpful staff which pay the attention to details. Place is impresive, build in Malay-style, full of tribal paraphenalias. The atmosphere is soooooo relaxing that we will come back there in future for sure :-))) Food isn't cheap but is very tasty and is served in a very chic way. Try fried rice! Place is located about 100 meter from the beach - great place for sunset viewing and walking. If you intend to climb Mt. Santubong, ask in the hotel for detailed information and assistance. It is really a great place!

“Lovely attention to detail”

My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights and had a very relaxing stay. The hotel is beautifully laid out around the 15m pool, with an eclectic mix of hornbill statues and other tribal paraphenalia amongst hammocks and colonial loungers. The food is excellent and the quiet attention to detail from the staff is great, combined with a genuine desire to help you get the most from your stay. Thoroughly recommend the village house for a break from city living.

“Relaxing and beautiful weekend away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2011

This place was recommended to us by a friend and it was fantastic!! It was about 50 mins drive from the airport in a taxi but well worth the distance - they also have a shuttle bus up to 6 times a day to Kuching for a very cheap rate. A beautiful secluded spot near the South China Sea with lovely, low-key rooms and beautiful, relaxing and comfortable public areas including a library, pool area, bar and restaurant. It's hard to believe they can sustain such a lovely place for the price you pay with only 12 rooms. We only stayed 2 nights but wanted to stay at least 2 more! On the list to return...

I could stay here for a long time!

We were met by Ms Linh(?) who gave us the run down of the joint before being taken to our room overlooking the pool. Having dumped our gear we wandered down for lunch which was fantastic and spent the rest of the day swimming, reading, eating and then a few beers in the bar whilst I watched the AFL Finals. I was a happy chap!

Lawrence, the manager availed himself and was not only keen to make sure all was hunky dory but was a bloody good bloke to chat to. Through him we arranged with others to head to Bako Nat Park (Lawrence drove both ways) and arranged our transfer to Kuching Airport too.

The decor is sensational, the service fantastic, the location peaceful and the beach five minutes walk away great for sunsets. There is an upstairs library and the owners are into their photography so there are lots of images around and mags too on the subject. Being a photographer i was kinda in heaven.

I actually feel bad about writing a review as I reckon I'd like to keep the place to myself but it's in my caring sharing nature to help you the discerning public coz i am a top bloke!
