“6 days 5 nites in one Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

This is our first time staying 5 nites in one Hotel. Due to the long weekend on 31 Dec our booking for Deluxe King was not ready after waiting for 2 hrs. We were upgraded to Executive King room instead, which was a blessing in disguise. We liked the clean and spacious room. Breakfast was good as there were a wide spread of food to choose from. But for long stay guest like us, the food is the same for past 5 days with little variation. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The location of the hotel was the plus point. It's walking distance to waterfront (esplanade), chinatown, little india, Main Bazzar and Top Spot Food Centre which are the main attractions in Kuching. Enjoyed our holiday in Kuching. Would stay again.

“Superior king room is awesome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

Initially we booked RIverside Majestic but due to unavailability of rooms, Riverside's management called us up a day before our trip to help transfer us to Magherita (We werent very happy with Riverside's management).

In Magherita, we were given a Deluxe King room in the old wing (facing the river). Upon checking in, I didnt feel comfortable with the room - it was quite old, furnitures were very outdated and I guess there were lesser people staying in the old wing. Well equipped with necessities but most of it were kinda old.

Hence I requested for a change of room and upgraded to the Superior King room in the new block (facing the main street) with a certain payment amount. I was delighted and satisfied with the price paid for my two nights stay here - we paid a total of almost RM600 for both nights (inclusixe tax). The new room is newly furnished, very clean, brightly lit and has good air ventilation despite not turning on the aircon for the night.

However, as most reviewers mentioned, the noise from the street outside could be heard especially during the night. Another con is that the reception team werent that friendly and helpful - they couldve shown better effort to customers paying RM300 for a one night stay here. Parking here is also a problem because parking spots are limited but there are guards that help/direct you to a free space.

Room Tip: Request for a change of room if youre not comfortable with your allocated room !

“Ensure that you get the New Wing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011
2

Stayed here for 2 nights in November 2011.

I had booked a Superior room in the upgraded wing, but got "upgraded" to a Deluxe room in the old wing without them informing me. I only found out when I got to the room and called them to check. They however insisted that the room I got was better and it had been "updated". It was late and I was too tired to move. You need to insist on a room at the new wing (Serapi). The old wing - Sadong Wing, is extremely dated and has a very strong musty odour. In fact, the moment the lift door opens, the musty odour would hit you immediately. There was hardly any other guests on the floor as I suspect almost everyone insisted on the new wing for that very reason.

Thankfully, the room smelt slightly better than the corridor. The deluxe room is big, but since its not upgraded, it is very very old. There are iron stains on the luggage rack, and lights are controlled by switches on a panel on the bed sideboard - something I have not seen in hotels since the 80s! The bathroom is again old, with rusty and stained fittings. The toilet has a bidet, but the bowl and toilet seat was stained and yellow with age. The bathroom also had a musty odour.

It has a nice view of the river from the room, but you may get awoken early (5am) by the prayer calls from the mosque across the river. Better to insist on the new wing or stay at the newer hotels in the area.

For meals, if you are lazy, you would be better off going down to the coffee house for a bite instead of room service. Prices are RM2 cheaper and you get 20% discount on top of that

Room Tip: Ensure that you get the upgraded wing.
