Stayed here for 2 nights in November 2011.
I had booked a Superior room in the upgraded wing, but got "upgraded" to a Deluxe room in the old wing without them informing me. I only found out when I got to the room and called them to check. They however insisted that the room I got was better and it had been "updated". It was late and I was too tired to move. You need to insist on a room at the new wing (Serapi). The old wing - Sadong Wing, is extremely dated and has a very strong musty odour. In fact, the moment the lift door opens, the musty odour would hit you immediately. There was hardly any other guests on the floor as I suspect almost everyone insisted on the new wing for that very reason.
Thankfully, the room smelt slightly better than the corridor. The deluxe room is big, but since its not upgraded, it is very very old. There are iron stains on the luggage rack, and lights are controlled by switches on a panel on the bed sideboard - something I have not seen in hotels since the 80s! The bathroom is again old, with rusty and stained fittings. The toilet has a bidet, but the bowl and toilet seat was stained and yellow with age. The bathroom also had a musty odour.
It has a nice view of the river from the room, but you may get awoken early (5am) by the prayer calls from the mosque across the river. Better to insist on the new wing or stay at the newer hotels in the area.
For meals, if you are lazy, you would be better off going down to the coffee house for a bite instead of room service. Prices are RM2 cheaper and you get 20% discount on top of that
Room Tip: Ensure that you get the upgraded wing.
