“Great Location, good value for money”

Reviewer: Trip Advisor Member, Perth, Australia
Stayed for several days in June 2007
It is a budget hotel so don't expect 5 star. There is no lift but if you are climbing Mt Kinabalu it's good training.
Our room was clean albeit a little shabby. We upgraded to a deluxe room with a bath as the shower in the standard room tended to flood the bathroom floor because it didn't slope towards the drain sufficiently but they did supply complimentary thongs!
The staff were lovely - friendly and helpful. Their notice board very informative. They looked after our luggage when we were at the mountain.
Great location, nice little bakers downstairs.
Good value budget accommodation.

“Dun get cheated by the photo on the website..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2007

Look at the hotel website photo, it looks nice isn't it ? but when we were there, it is totally different ! Upon checked with the receipts, was told that the photo was taken 10yrs back(2006) ! It is still published in their website & brochure !! Ok, put aside the photo..

This hotel is located at the 2nd floor, u need to take staircase to go up to their "lobby". No lift ! After go thru the checking process, we got the room key, we still have to take the staircase up to our room level, which is at 4rd level. Again, no lift !

Open the room, it is warm !! We switch on the aircon and heard the "machine" running, it is not central-controlled aircon and u have to adjust ur own temperature where even u set to the lowest, it is still warm, but at nite, it is quite cold !!

The room is quite clean I shall say but u get turn off with the stain on the bedsheet/blanket ! Well, budget hotel.. can't expect much.

Go to check out the bathroom, seems ok.... but the major problem arise when we take our shower, no cold water even the knob is there. The water pressure is worst, suddenly it is like rain drop, a while later like storm ! imaging u r showering/bathing with hot water and on/off the water changing its pressure.. :(

Not really an enjoyable hotel stay I shall say... but the hotel location is very good, u can go anywhere from here..

“Nice for the price”

The rooms were fairly clean, and so were the bathrooms, although I did have problems with the showers once - the water kept coming out of the tap for the bathtub instead of the shower, even when I turned the lever the right way! Otherwise, it's pretty good value for money, getting a tv (with one cable channel!) and private bathroom.

While it's not right next to the busiest streets (in fact it's in a place that gets rather quiet at night!), it was pretty safe in general and Kota Kinabalu's not a big city so it's only a short walk to many places to eat and shop.

Most other people staying there are Malaysian families. The staff are also very friendly and prompt - when I couldn't work the electric kettle, they arrived to help me in about 15 minutes.

“Good value budget hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2007

Stayed in KK for 6 nights in December 06, had a brilliant time, & the Hotel Holiday was good for us.
It cost £10 for a twin room with TV, aircon, hot water etc, good value budget hotel.
It is a little rough round the edges, but for £10 its good value.
If you want all the trimmings etc, stay elsewhere, but for the budget concious traveller it was perfect!
We were the only foreigners there, all the rest of the guests were holidaying Malaysians - so if its good enough for them, its good enough for us!
Its in a good location, right in the city centre, within walking distance of everything - caution tho, its next to a busy road - the main throughfare thru KK, but we did not hear traffic.
Be a little cautions at night lone females etc in this area as it can get a bit seedy maybe (did not affect us) , but us two lads were fine.
Supermerket, shops. bars, travel agents, shopping cnetre, waterfront, ferry terminal, taxi rank all within walking distance.
Overall 4 out of 5.

“Hotel Holiday Bagus Ba!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2006

We recently stayed for around 7 nights off and on at Hotel Holiday in Kota Kinabalu in Sabah during our 3 week trip to sabah and northern Sarawak. This is rated as a budget hotel, and is certainly that. We stayed in one of their family rooms for RM90 a night (four off us). The rooms are clean, the bathrooms are reasonable, have hot water, and have a bath tub and western style toilet.
What really is the best part about the place is the staff at reception who were warm, friendly, helpful, and honest. They were the best! They were great with our 2 kids, 7 & 9. Helped us with our Malaysian too!
the location is central and handy in Segama, a block from the Hyatt. Mini buses across the road, supermarket across the road, next to the post office, 7 minute walk to the ferries to TAR park.
You may not think the bathroom tiling is fabulous, but Mrs Wah and Asran and the girls are what makes the place a home away from home in Sabah. Travel guides need to include this place!
