“the gd, the bad and the ugly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Our stay had its fair share of the good and the bad.
Good- Sabah hospitality, staff friendly, helpful and accommodating, got upgraded to Ocean View room, spacious room, has an expansive and quiet beach (even though hotel was almost at max capacity), well landscaped, quaint environs, dreaded mandatory CNY dinner turned out to be quite a pleasant surprise, MYR23 round trip shuttle to and from KK city Centrepoint (with optional stopover at 1Borneo), wildlife abundant, food at restaurants decent enough albeit a tad overpriced, free daily activities to partake in (batik painting, tennis etc...)
Bad- beg bugs!!!!, found mouse dropping on bed and in suitcase (eck!) (likely dropped from crown moulding), power went out for a while on first night (early morning), had to wait 30 minutes after calling for a ride to main lobby (it was raining heavily), inconsistent replies from one staff to the next regarding fees/fares, toilet paper wasn't refilled day before check out (ran out), bathtub faucet wonky and not functioning properly, pillows too soft (no hard pillow option), spa's 'in-pool' chairs were filthy/mouldy, LOTS of boisterous, insolent, discourteous and tactless Mainland Chinese tour groups (raiding restaurants en masse), only (mediocre) house wine available by the glass--otherwise must buy by bottle, beach (sand and sea) was littered with sea weed and garbage on first day (but the tide cleared it all away by the next day), waves too big for a swim but ok for a dip

“Nexus Kota Kinabalu”

Certainly not a 4.5 Star hotel & very overpriced for what you get. The location is good but the resort is shabby, tired & unkempt. The bathroom supplies were very minimal. The restaurants offered very average food & lacked ambience. However the staff were very friendly. I would NOT recommend this resort.
Advertised day trip unavailable.

“Overrated”

Maybe a 3 star but never a 4+ star.
In need of TLC, broken tiles everywhere, taped up electrics, dripping taps & most of all the restaurants were over-priced. Penalised for not bringing your own laptop, RM6 charge for the Internet but free hard connection in room!! No wifi in room, so no good if you have iPad! Chaotic dining room, understaffed.
The only saving grace was the staff.

“An enjoyable trip”

Took my partner to a resort for the first time here. The check in staff were friendly and efficient. Resort amenities were basic but adequate. We whiled away our time by the pool, pool bar or the beach. The remoteness of this resort made it a welcome retreat, but a bit boring at night. I think that it would be good for a group of people as it is easier to create your own fun in the bar once its dark. We utilised the free wifi in all the restaurants to keep up to date with our iphones. Lobby Wifi often did not work due to too many people. However, just down the hall a little you could access the chinese restauarants.
The meals at the resort were nice. Cakes were delicious at the cake shop, had one every day.... Our meal at the chinese restaurant was great. Peking duck and the left over duck cooked with salts and spices, was some of the best I have had.

Would recommend this hotel to others going to the area to relax. Had a huge beach frontage with no one on it. Rooms can feel a little remote. Staff are always smiling.

“One Of The Greatest Hotels, I Have Stayed In!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

This is one of the biggest and greatest hotels, I have stayed in. This hotel does take a big area. It has the main building (or the main hotel), followed by villas and sea attractions park, as you drive down the road. This time I have stayed in the villas area. Even though the area is made for villas, it has few tall buildings (with rooms you can stay in) that surround a swimming pool with a bar. In one of the buildings there is a reception, a main bus stop (but you can always ask a driver to drop you at your villa) and an attraction room, where you can play board games, paint boutique and many other things to do. The beach, well I wouldn't call it a normal beach because it has no umbrellas or lounges on it but the swimming pool is very close to it and you can always use the lounges that are around it. Usually they are empty because only few people come to this villa area. Most of the people stay in the main hotel which has more things to do. For example: library (which has varieties of books in different languages), games area, sea attractions (a bit less choice than in the sea attraction park) and many more. I will recommend the villa area for people who prefer silence or life in your own house (with a swimming pool) near the sea.
