“Extremely good value for money. Recommended for families.”

I cannot fault this hotel at all. I booked this place fairly last minute for the CNY holidays - and obviously my first priority was to get the top rated places on TA - Rasa Ria, Tanjung Aru, and all the resorts. However, they were either fully booked, or extremely overpriced - RM1200 a night!!! This hotel was recommended to me by someone - at first I was apprehensive seeking reviews here, but after coming back for a good 5 day stay at the hotel I have nothing but praises as they charged me only RM 300++ for a Double Deluxe SUITE which included breakfasts and high tea. when was the last time you had high tea for 2 included in your suite stay for RM 300++? Well, this is a first for me.

As per suggestions below, I requested a corner suite with a sea facing view and it was a very good choice. I had a nice living room area, a big bathroom area with bath and shower, 2 TVs and a large king sized bed. it had all amenities - TV, coffee making facilities, fridge, ironing board and iron, bathrobes, etc.No complaints with the room.

What impressed me most was that gym was working properly - it was well equipped, the jacuzzi was working and so was the sauna and steam. Typically what you see at hotels are that one or a few of these facilities are not working. the pool was fine, if a little small. They also had a few restaurants in the building - a bakery, a chinese restaurant, and if you stay on the Promenade Club floors, you have a mini cafe up on the 11th floor as well.

As per suggestion below I took only the rooms with Promenade Floor Club privileges - which means rooms on 10-12th floor. This way, based on the reviews below you are able to guarantee some standards in terms of the rooms.

I have had no issues with the service there - in fact they were overly nice to me! Based on the reviews here I was expecting lots of surliness but I received none of that. Everyone was super smiley and helpful.

I traveled with my family this time and it was nice to go into a hotel with lots more domestic travelers and locals. I don't see many foreign tourists here - so if you are from overseas and would like the company of other travelers I doubt this is the place for that - being a frequent traveler myself. If you are here in KK and would like to be in town, and want to get things done, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Stay on the Promenade Club Floor Rooms - Sea Facing.

“Fairly good hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

The hotel is situated at the extreme south point of the promenade, this isn't such a big problem as a 10 to 15 minutes stroll takes you to the centre or a 2 to 3 minutes in a taxi. The hotel is generally quite good, the sea view rooms provides an excellent sun set. There is a small bar on the second floor that has live music (was good when i was there). The hotel caters for lot of functions happening like weddings so the lobby area and around the function rooms can get a bit chaotic. No complaints with this hotel, was a fairly good place to stay although nothing particularly special springs to mind

Room Tip: Sea view for the great sun sets

“You are cheated !”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

When you walk into the hotel lobby, it looks grand, with personal chairs and receptionist to greet you, but beware he seems not properly trained, when I book for 2 nights, he give me one with one breakfast coupon. You may have to repeat your words a few times because he is not responsive, strange behavior.

So I have asked for a non-smoking room, however when getting into the room, funny there is some cigarette smells, although it goes away (or I get used to it) later. And inside the room, the first thing you notice are some disappointing notices on the table, temporary closure of swimming pool, some TV channels disruptions, and refurbishment noises.

The internet connection is sad, it is slower than snail, you have to wait 3 minutes for a page to load, totally useless, when you call to ask what happened, they say they want to go into your room and investigate, that is not intelligent at all, I told them forget it, because they just have a lousy broadband, thats all.

The TV is so so small, and room is dim, the kettle looks dirty. The standard room rate RM$250 is expensive with this kind of set-up in Malaysia, really not worth your money.

“Stay here only if Le Meridien is not available...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

When in Kota Kinabalu, I will only opt for Promenade when I couldn't get a room to stay at Le Meridien. Actually, there are no major complaints about the rooms here, as I usually will be given the type of room I requested - corner junior suite, sea-facing and preferably the higher floor. This room category is well-appointed, with comfortable king bed, all the required amneties, an appreciated welcoming fruit basket, and a good sense of privacy. The sunset view (5th floor and above) is simply stunning. Despite all the positives, Promenade still falls short of making you feel welcomed largely due to the attitude of the staffs that will greet you upon your arrival. An air of aloofness will always be evident, and it makes one wonder why it is so difficult for them to display even minimal courtesy. This review was made on my 17th visit, based collectively since I first stayed in 2002, and I can attest the service 'quality' remained consistent throughout those years. Perhaps, the food quality might made up for some of the service issues. Overall, my first choice in KK will always be Le Meridien, but I do not mind staying here if I can get the junior suite room. Otherwise, I guess its better to travel up to Nexus Karambunai, or Tanjung Aru Shangri-la if my travel budget allows it..

Room Tip: Ask for the corner junior suite facing the sea...the sunset view is simply stunning...the higher the...
