“Beautiful place, but a bit pricey.”

We stayed for 2 nights, we were the only guests whcih was a bit weird!
Bungalow was lovely, with a large terrace area with chairs for sitting out. Oddly, our room had 2 bathrooms (I think it used to be 2 rooms).
Lots of monkeys, monitor lizzards, bugs etc. I got some horrible bites from sand flies on the beach.
Food was good quality (no choice, but delicious) we were given sweet and sour prawns, peppered beef, rice, stir flried veg among other things.
Beers/wine were expensive but thats to be expected.
Mud volcano is 1km walk, and there is diving/snorkling but we didn't do it.
Sunsets were amazing and it was a very relaxing stay.
Take bug repellent.

“Budget resort - rewarding when you don't expect too much”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

Pulau Tiga is worth your time to relax a day or two when you are looking for a budget style accommodation on an island (palm trees, beach, snorkeling, exotic animals and, here comes the funny thing: mud baths). The cottages are basic but are all close to the beach and the jungle. The food in the restaurant is fair, nothing special. The staff is always interested in playing a volleyball game (they're quite good). If you're unlucky to have bad weather on the island, there is a karaoke machine and a pool table... So, I hope you will have good weather.

“Ok - but not worth value for money.”

Its a 2.5 hour drive from KK, and a 30 min boat ride. Its a long way to go for what is just a so-so resort. Cottages, tho nice tht is stand-alone, are pretty basic and almost run down. Pillows gave me a stiff neck for the next couple of days. There is two twin beds, a cupboard and a night stand in the rooms. Water was foul-smelling altho there was air con in the room, the one luxury. Monitor lizards and macaques are easily spotted during the day, and rats at night.
Since u have no other food options, meals are provided, which are not bad but not great either.
Beach is almost not walkable due to the debris and driftwood, and a relaxing lie down in one of the hammocks gave me tens of sand fly bites.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

Just back from Sabah. We spent the first three days of our stay at Pulau Tiga. The experience did not meet expectations for several reasons
- beach was very dirty, and none of the staff seem to bother to clean it. I thought that the beach in the resort next to this one looked cleaner and in better shape although it seemed to be closed
- quality of the water: it was murky, no good visibility
- coral is pretty much dead so there is not much interesting snorkling to do unless you take a boat and go outside and even so i would say it is average
- quality of the food so so, specially the first day. When a big guided tour of British people arrived the next day we got the impression that food improved (quantity and quality)
- monkeys could be annoying and aggressive... made me nervous specially travelling with kids
All in all I was expecting something better that justified all the trouble and cost to go all the way to Tiga (it is 2 hr ride from KK + 45min boat ride) like amazing beaches or great snorkling, or crystal clear waters..... but did not find that. We did the mud vulcano but beware of mosquito bites.....it is a 1.5 km torture (3km return), no insect repelent works and while it was fun, different i would say, thinking about it now, i doubt i would do it again. The resort offers very limited activities. I have not stayed in the islands that are in front of KK, but it may be a closer and better alternative to Tiga.

“Quiet Island retreat - perfect for relaxing few days”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2010

Great location for a hotel, with guest numbers limited to on average less than 30 at any one time.

The only hotel on the island means that this is a great location for doing nothing. Sea is very warm and perfect for small children. watch out for the monkeys on the island they will try and take things out of your bags if they get the chance!!

Restaurant is buffet style and serves limited but good choice of food based aroung rice and noodles. Tea and coffee on tap 24 hours and a pay bar for those fed up of drinking just water.

Rooms were of lodge style and comfortable with Air con as standard. However, no hot water facilities making cold showers the only option here!!

Water sports are available on the island for small charge, snorkling and diving etc - wouldn't bother snorkling close to the island most of the coral is dead and the sea rough maiking it difficult to see thise fish that still remain.

Overall a great get away estination, but don't expect 5 start facilities - 'paradise on a budget'
