It's been kept up to date, nice ambiance, spacious, clean, things for the kids to do, nice walks along the beach, boat trips around local islands and rooms are a good size and most with sea view. The gardens and swimming pool are pleasant and fun for the kids. The restaurants in the hotel offer a fairly wide variety of food and I found it mostly enjoyable. The only disappointment is that the sea is not as clean as you would wish. Although not obvious, the hotel is situated quite near the mouth of a river and although some way off, on an island opposite the resort local people live in houses on stilts and so the sea is not clear. People do swim in it and of course it's okay for the small free rowing boats available on the hotel's sandy beach.

What can I say.... when you walk along the grotty corridors towards your room you navigate around the additional beds stored in the corridors (and try not to look at the dirty mattresses) , jump over the leftover's from room service that guest put out, and that will stay there at least overnight! The staff just passes by and nobody takes the trouble to clean the mess up. See my pictures if you don't believe me. When you reach your room, you fear the worst and are not disappointed. Old, tired and in great need of refurbishment, especially the bathroom! Last but not least: the flies! thousands of them. During breakfast, the staff tries to keep the food covered with plastic cling film, but still...., you do get a lot of exercise during breakfast trying to wave the flies away .... Then you get ready for a day at the beach...forget it, polluted and unkept, old chairs, broken glass... Was there a positive experience: yes , the pool is quite nice and the staff is friendly. We cut our stay short and were glad to leave.

Well, at first when we read the reviews of the resort, we were quite worry about our trip. But when we arrived and checked in, we were amazed at the friendliness of all the staff and their efficiency. The rooms were in good condition and very clean. We were also worried bout the flies (from the many reviews), but surprisngly, they weren't that bad at all.

We love the place which is very secluded... away from everything. Overall, it was a great holiday for us!!! Cheers!!!

We booked 1 night for holiday apartment and 1 night for hotel room through our membership with Swiss Garden vacation club in last year christmas.

HOLIDAY APARTMENT
We stayed in the holiday apartment in 2009 and it is worn out and tired. Everything is so old but still OK if not fussy.
Recently, we received the news that holiday apartment was going through refurbishment. Hoping there will be some changes, I give another try in 2011.

To my suprise, the so called refurbishment is only changing the floor tiles, the rest of the furnishing are still the same, OLD and tired. Especially the bed and linen, after the one night stay. My back become allergy and rashes appeared. I didn't sleep for the whole night!
Made me have to seek medical consultation right after back from Damai Laut! I guess the bed have been ages old and home to millions of germs and mites. Very very bad experience compare to 2009!


HOTEL ROOM
After the nightmare at holiday apartment, I have to bear with rashes itching on my back for the second night at hotel room. We have no choice, since booked the second night for hotel room. I was praying hard for the hotel, at least the bed won't be the same... Luckily, the room is very clean and modern furnishing. Everything is so different compare to the holiday apartment. It's like a new hotel! I supposed the refurbishment are done in the hotel room and not the holiday apartment.

I can say this is like hell and heaven.It is very comfortable in the hotel room. I will rate this hotel room for 4 stars! But for the holiday apartment, only 1 star can be rated.

Actually this resort is quite secluded and relaxing. But locationwise, you need to have a car as the nearest township is almost 20-30km away. Once you are in the resort, you won't feel going out anymore, everything is too far.

The beach is not really clean, but the resort provides a lot activities for the hotel guest with some reasonable charges.

I guess I only will stay the hotel for my next visit. BIG NO to the holiday apartment!
