Stayed there for two days in November. It is a nice enough place on beautifully kept grounds, but the bungalows just sit in a plain garden, without any view. It’s a short drive away from Taman Negara, which means, if you don’t have a car with you, you need to be driven forth and back by the people of the guesthouse. That didn’t seem too big of a deal for us, so –after the very positive reviews on tripadvisor and in the LP- we decided to treat us to a little upgrade stay, while in Taman Negara and go for the Travelers Home. On the plus side the food was delicious, and the dinner with the other houseguests was fun.
On the downside, the lady who seems to run the place seemed to be constantly annoyed with us. Our requests were not that high-maintenance you would think (for example we remarked, that the shower didn’t work at all on our second morning or asked to be picked up from the Park), but still, we felt like we were a nuisance to her the whole time. That being said, all the men around the house were really nice.
The transport back to the guesthouse from TN after a hard day of uphill trekking was difficult to organize, in the end we had to force an innocent passerby to call the guesthouse on his cell, in order to pick us up, as the staff in the floating restaurants on the river refused to do so.
Then the TH is really expensive, you would have to pay 160 MR for a room with a shared bathroom, which seems to be a little steep. Laundry was quite costly to, plus the lady tried to charge us twice for the laundry, since we delivered it (one pair of pants, two t-shirts and some knickers each of us) in two separate bags…
All in all the stay was very awkward, not very enjoyable, so it seems like a better choice to go for a (cheaper) guesthouse closer to the park, where you could just crash after a sweaty trek in the park.
