“Friendly vibe and good service”

We booked a 3d/2n package including a private guide. We loved the place and it was not far from the park entrance. It's a 5 minute ride by car and there's always someone at Travellers Home who can drive you there. We got an 'upgrade' because there were some bungalows still available. The bungalows are spacious and very clean, including AC. The garden is beautiful and also suitable for children to play in. The guests were very friendly and laid back. We had some nice talks during breakfast and dinner at the long tables. There's so much to do, we actually wanted to stay an extra day.

“Just not worth it…”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2010

Stayed there for two days in November. It is a nice enough place on beautifully kept grounds, but the bungalows just sit in a plain garden, without any view. It’s a short drive away from Taman Negara, which means, if you don’t have a car with you, you need to be driven forth and back by the people of the guesthouse. That didn’t seem too big of a deal for us, so –after the very positive reviews on tripadvisor and in the LP- we decided to treat us to a little upgrade stay, while in Taman Negara and go for the Travelers Home. On the plus side the food was delicious, and the dinner with the other houseguests was fun.

On the downside, the lady who seems to run the place seemed to be constantly annoyed with us. Our requests were not that high-maintenance you would think (for example we remarked, that the shower didn’t work at all on our second morning or asked to be picked up from the Park), but still, we felt like we were a nuisance to her the whole time. That being said, all the men around the house were really nice.

The transport back to the guesthouse from TN after a hard day of uphill trekking was difficult to organize, in the end we had to force an innocent passerby to call the guesthouse on his cell, in order to pick us up, as the staff in the floating restaurants on the river refused to do so.

Then the TH is really expensive, you would have to pay 160 MR for a room with a shared bathroom, which seems to be a little steep. Laundry was quite costly to, plus the lady tried to charge us twice for the laundry, since we delivered it (one pair of pants, two t-shirts and some knickers each of us) in two separate bags…

All in all the stay was very awkward, not very enjoyable, so it seems like a better choice to go for a (cheaper) guesthouse closer to the park, where you could just crash after a sweaty trek in the park.

“A peaceful place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

We stayed at Travellers' Home last summer for three nights during our visit at Taman Negara. The structure seemed to be the best among the ones we saw (we had initially chosen it due to its good rating on Tripadvisor) and we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is very homely and the staff is nice, food is ok and home made (breakfast and dinner are included in the price, which is good value for money). There is a big fridge where you can take chocolate, water, beer (perhaps the only place where you can get beer around there!) and other goods and then you write down your name and what you have taken and you pay at the end. There's a computer with internet that works the same way, you use it and write down for how long...we liked this trust-based system. The rooms are clean and air-conditioned. The place is a little far from the park entrance but they take you and pick you up for free whenever you ask (and if you want to be picked up from the park without having made an appointment and don't want to call with your own foreign phone, any of the travel agencies on the boats will call Travellers' Home for you...they also have the number). Also the fact of being a bit secluded makes it quieter (the other places are so crammed together) and roomier (the garden is big and beautiful). I would not recommend any of the places closer to the river as most looked awful, and in regards to the Taman Negara Resort, the one at the park entrance...well go for it if you want to feel you are at a Club Med village. One last note as this seems to be a major concern amongst people who visit the jungle: we did not find any scary tropical insect in the room! except a common fly which in fact didn't look very exotic...

“A very special memory”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2010

We found the staff at Traveller's Home to be extremely welcoming, personal, and kind. They went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and special. The hotel was basic, but it was clean (you are in the rainforest, so that is not necessarily a given! :)) and comfortable. We really enjoyed eating meals with others from around the world! They provide shuttle transfers whenever you need to go from the hotel to the river/park. We think we found a gem in the Taman Negara!

“Superb stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2010

We had a great time at the Traveller's Home and we would always come back! We had a chalet which was ideal for 2 adults. The breakfast and dinner was be served in the main house and was always delicious. It was also a good possibility to have a chat with the other guest and to make plans to discover the jungle. We liked the family atmosphere and the shuttle bus transfer to the Taman Negara Park. Thanks again to the owner, who helped us with the spare tire on our rented car!
