“Brilliant service, lovely stay.”

Stayed with my wife and baby daughter for 3 nights. On the way to the airport in KL we realised we'd forgotten the buggy. Rang ahead to the hotel who had one ready on arrival. Check in seamless, lobby was beautiful as were the cold drinks on arrival. We hired one of the hotel mini convertibles for a great day driving around the island.
Views from the pool area and balcony were simply stunning. My wife had an early spa appointment and the staff invited my daughter and I to use the spa pool as they had no other bookings. Having the entire spa area to ourself was very special. Food choice was excellent, but it's not cheap for food and booze compared with elsewhere on the island. Can't wait to visit again.

Dear mark c,
Warmest greetings from The Westin Langkawi Resort and Spa. I would like to thanks for choosing our resorts during your trip to Langkawi Island. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and recognition of services provided by our attentive associates. I so enjoyed reading your arrival experience and glad that you are comfortable with our check in process. I do agree with you that the scenery from the lobby is wonderful as it offers a magnificent view of Andaman Sea and the endless stretch of the blue sky. I am happy to know that you had taken some time to experience our award winning Heavenly Spa. We have taken note of your comments regarding the pricing of our foods and will review it to ensure that it is more in line with our competitors. My team and I would greatly value the opportunity to restore your faith in our resort soon.

Be well,
Helmut Pluecker

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

people found this review helpful

On the surface the public areas look good, but the rooms are tired, small, noisy (you can hear every single person walk past in the corridor), not all of them have a balcony/patio, there is a really odd window between the room and bathroom (which serves no useful purpose but could certainly kill any romance) and it's hard to get into the bath/shower as there is a really wide side to clamber over.

The food and drink are expensive (RM29 for a 1L bottle of water) and the general quality is average at best. The breakfast buffet food and especially coffee seems to lack freshness and most days we had to wait to be seated. The a la carte restaurant was closed for 4 days while we were there as they had a business conference on which is annoying. They are also quite miserly with the tea and milk in the rooms, only one of each type of tea bag a day and often they didn't replenish the milk.

The spa treatments are very pricey which put us off trying any.

The gym is pretty well equiped for a hotel gym.

Wifi is chargable in the room for what Westin deem a nominal charge - RM45 per day, which is annoying as it seems many other 5 star hotels on the island offer it for free.

All in all a bit of a disappointment considering what we paid for the room and given the other hotel we stayed in on Langkawi, we think you can get much more for your money elsewhere.

“Worth the stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Overall the hotel is worth the stay. The service/staff was excellent during our stay. A good live band that plays during the evenings keeping a good buzz in the hotel. We're vegetarians & the hotel made some good effort to try to accommodate our food requests. Pool is quite good. The hotel is not comparable to the four seasons which is far better in quality of rooms/ambiance. But it has better value for stay - surely the 2nd best hotel in Langkawi.

“Worst food ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

people found this review helpful

The main building and pools have been renovated and looked nice, but the rooms are terrible old!
The food is the worst ever! We were there during christmas time, probably the most busy time of the year and they were not prepared for this! Luckily we were up early for breakfast, but others were waiting in line about 30-60min. just to eat breakfast!!!
3 days in a row, I tried to order a breaded chicken sandwich and every day they were out of breaded chicken ( from a small menu!) I ordered a Mohito drink, sorry we are out of Mohito....
The food here is the most expensive resort food I ever had and ridiculous small portions and worst taste ever!
I only have 3 words to say: Don't go there!!

“Excellent rooms and location, staff team on the ball and professional, just a shame that the food was well below average”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

A great hotel for peace and quiet, but close to shopping & restaurant areas. All the rooms are of a standard that you'd expect from a Westin. The sea view rooms are special, and if you can splash out on a suite at the end of the block, it's like an entire apartment with a massive double balcony.

Arrival was smooth and well handled, especially as it was the mad hour (4pm Friday). We were shown to a comfortable sofa, given a drink and cold towels while we waited our turn to check in. It took a while and as a thank you, the hotel upgraded us - a nice gesture that ensures we will go back to Westin again.

The room (suite) was huge with dining room, lounge, walk in wardrobe, a massive bathroom and a double balcony with two dining areas and loungers. Not sure of size but must have been 1,000 sq ft. Direct view over the bay, spotlessly clean, no noise, every possible facility, and probably one of the best rooms we have stayed in, ever.

The only let down was the food. We had dinner in the room first night, and breakfast also the next morning. The food arrived cold, on cold plates, and was at best average, at worst inedible. We had dinner one night at Tide restaurant and an additional breakfast at the buffet on the Sunday. Again, both were average at best. More like a 3 star B&B :(

Malaysia does food so well (we had snacks at Four Seasons and Datai - Datai was stunning, Westin should steal their F&B manager!) and it was so sad to see a great hotel serving up what was basically bus-trip food. The entire experience at the hotel was 9 out of 10, but the food was lucky to scrape in at 3 out of 10. Sorry, but Westin can do very much better than this.

However, overall, we were grateful for the upgrade, the staff team were brilliant, the rooms were perfect, the views amazing and the value for money was a hit also. Thank you for a great long weekend!

Room Tip: A sea view room is a must if you can get one.
