“Excellent rooms and location, staff team on the ball and professional, just a shame that the food was well below average”
A great hotel for peace and quiet, but close to shopping & restaurant areas. All the rooms are of a standard that you'd expect from a Westin. The sea view rooms are special, and if you can splash out on a suite at the end of the block, it's like an entire apartment with a massive double balcony.
Arrival was smooth and well handled, especially as it was the mad hour (4pm Friday). We were shown to a comfortable sofa, given a drink and cold towels while we waited our turn to check in. It took a while and as a thank you, the hotel upgraded us - a nice gesture that ensures we will go back to Westin again.
The room (suite) was huge with dining room, lounge, walk in wardrobe, a massive bathroom and a double balcony with two dining areas and loungers. Not sure of size but must have been 1,000 sq ft. Direct view over the bay, spotlessly clean, no noise, every possible facility, and probably one of the best rooms we have stayed in, ever.
The only let down was the food. We had dinner in the room first night, and breakfast also the next morning. The food arrived cold, on cold plates, and was at best average, at worst inedible. We had dinner one night at Tide restaurant and an additional breakfast at the buffet on the Sunday. Again, both were average at best. More like a 3 star B&B :(
Malaysia does food so well (we had snacks at Four Seasons and Datai - Datai was stunning, Westin should steal their F&B manager!) and it was so sad to see a great hotel serving up what was basically bus-trip food. The entire experience at the hotel was 9 out of 10, but the food was lucky to scrape in at 3 out of 10. Sorry, but Westin can do very much better than this.
However, overall, we were grateful for the upgrade, the staff team were brilliant, the rooms were perfect, the views amazing and the value for money was a hit also. Thank you for a great long weekend!
Room Tip: A sea view room is a must if you can get one.
