“Nice Little Kampung, with a great view and relaxing layout”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

This is the 2nd time we visited Fishing Bay Resort, and both times we booked the deluxe unit where it is the closest to the beach. The ambience and surroundings were beautiful, and has an authentic kampung (village) atmosphere. The pool is well kept and clean. The beach is also clean but often occupied by public as there is a public road access direct to the beach. The room was clean and comfortable, but there are only two issues with cleanliness. The first is that we can smell urine from areas outside the unit, especially coming from ground under the unit (its on stilts). When the wind blows through the bottom, you can smell the stench as you sit on the porch. The second is the air-conditioning unit. The wind flow was rather weak, and when I removed the cover, it was covered with very thick dirt on its filter. It seems that there is no regular maintenance of the air-condition units. The breakfast at the cafe is reasonable, with ample amount of food. However we are disappointed that there are not much of a variety of food for lunch or dinner, as there are mainly burgers/sandwidches and spicy food. We have to travel to the town to grab a decent hot meal. We like the parking, as our car can parked right up to the door, so underloading the stuff was very convenient. Overall, the place is average and we like its setting. We hope the management can improve the maintenance of the aircon and also the areas outside the deluxe units, and also have a better spread on its menu.

“LOVE THE PULAU AMBIENCE...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2010

Honestly, when i read stuff on the tripadvisor, i was a bit taken aback but because the front office of this resort sounds very pleasant, i decided to give it a try. After all, am not risking a BIG amount of money for the family to try out this family retreat. I was actualy very surprised when i got to Fishing Bay Resort. Didn't even thought that there would be such a place in MERSING. The place is NOT a luxury HOTEL getaway but a nice kampung, comfortable and relaxing, away from the city hustles kinda place. I would describe it as an island ambience since its situated in between 2 hills, very privacy, bay scenery... just it, just Fishing Bay Resort and nothing else... Don't expect the luxury hotel ambience coz it's simple but to me it's enough. My kids, they enjoy the place cause they can run around in a spacious area, in between the coconut trees, playing football, traditional game such as Teng-Teng with the assistance of the nice staff there. And, at night while the kids playing indoor board games, pillow fighting etc, my husband and i had a good romantic walk along the beach, sat down at the swimming pool area and had a lovely romantic time, watching the stars that you can see so clearly there... Seriously, i was really considering if i should share this wonderful experience to others because i am afraid that many people would get to know the place and i might not have the chance to book the place again especially during school holiday cause the resort only has a total of 30 units, however... i just had to share my experience with others especially when considering how some bad reviews came out when actually, MY FAMILY and I had a GREAT time and i have the belief that we will not get dissappointed because, the Resort Manager that runs the place and most of the staff are family members. I believe they treat their guests, just like guests who come to their HOUSE... So, give it a try guys and i hope you get to experience what i experienced. Am glad cause my kids get to appreciate nature as the modern ones begin to forget the GREAT NATURE

“This is our 3rd trip here, one worst than earlier! Do something guys!”

My family fall in love with Fishingbay Resort when we first discovered it March 2009. It was relaxing and fun! I must say it's one of the best trip I ever had.
That's why we visited again early 2010. However to our big disappointment, the resort was overcrowded. The nice green grass patch dried out, it's full of dust and hot like hell!
The air-con wasn't working properly, so I gave it a check, open the cover up and found out that it's coil was heavily choked with dust, so much that the moss grew on it already!
I clean it up in order to have it working to get some cool air. I wonder if it's ever serviced at all.
That night, I took a shower after coming back from dinner at Mersing town, suddenly the water stop flowing. My wife went to check it out and were told that due to drought season, they do not have enough water supply in the tank thus they have to stop the water to allow the tank to be filled again, they said it'll take few hours, and they were right, we didn't have water until the next day. I have to clean up the shampoo using bottled drinking water......
Due to some company function, tents were setup and there were karaoke singing til late night - 11pm. We couldn't rest at all as the speaker was blasting away the off tuned singing very loudly.
We were hoping they'd stop after midnight. However to my surprise, after midnight when the guests were gone, the resort staffs took over the singing session and enjoy themselves!
I couldn't take it sitting down anymore thus confronted them, in a nice manner.
Giving them the benefit of doubt, we believe that it could be due to the drought season (as they claimed), we booked Fishingbay resort again during our August 2010 trip there.
This time, we took the regular room. The air-con and the room were fibe, somehow, the resort had already lost the charm that we first experienced a year ago.
The building and furniture were rather worn, a huge different from our first trip there, surprisingly within 2 year time.
We checked out and went to another hotel the 2nd night (which was absolutely fantastic!)
Overall, I sincerely hope the owner do something about the place. It's a very nice piece of estate, if only properly manage and maintain well.
What a pity.

“Qouted a price but wanted to charge a different”

Was quoted a lower weekdays rate (since it not on a weekend or a public holiday in Malaysia) but when we was there, they wanted to charge us a public holiday rate .... keep telling us that's the rate they are charging everyone and we can go about asking them ... I wouldn't care how much they charge others, I only know how much they quoted us .... and they give us that kind of attitude that its our fault that they wrongly quoted us

“Peaceful & serene”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2010

Ideal place to stay if you want time out to relax , unwind and eat delicious freshly cooked food. The beach is good, swimming in the sea is okay but the water is not as blue as we would have liked. The infinity pool is clean and not too deep.We stayed in one of the chalets which was clean and the beds very comfortable. The only slight problem was a frog in the bathroom which was a regular visitor. On the upside of being so close to nature we saw a couple of fireflies, a monitor lizard and a hornbill sitting on the swaying coconut tree outside our chalet. Two to three days was enough for us as there is not much else to do but unwind. We left with lovely memories.
