“Good value, no issues”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 June 2011

We stayed in this hotel twice, once pre-Tioman (after leaving Omar's Backpackers due to countless bed bugs - avoid!!) and another night post-Tioman.

As reported in other reviews, a good basic hotel. Hot water, towels and a TV make it a step up from some budget accommodation, and we found the staff very friendly. Everything in the room, while not perfect, pretty much worked.

Excellent location with an easy walk to both bus station and ferry. Three floors and no lift which would be annoying with lots of luggage I guess. Paid 55RM for a double room but had to haggle to get that price the second time (weekend).

“Good value for the amount paid”

Clean and decent if you need an absolutely no frills night's stay before heading off to Tioman. No lifts though, so need to be mindful if you have heavy luggage or can't do stairs. Great location - within walking distance of shops and jetty to take ferry to Tioman. Had aircon problems but this was quite promptly attended to. Typical Malaysian wet bathroom. Hot water and flush worked fine.

“Good place to sleep before/after going to Tioman.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2010

Stayed there 1 night, the day before catching the ferry to Tioman.

This hotel is 1 or 2 star hotel, not so new, but just well maintained and it was clean. About 5 mins walking to jetty to Timoan. There was restaurant in downstair and Seven eleven was located just opposite of the road. This hotel was not fancy at all, however it was ok to spend one night just for sleep before going to Tioman.

“Great value (basic), good location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 September 2010

Nothing pretentious about this place. Rooms have air-con, separate lavatory/shower, local TV, comfortable beds. Towels etc provided. Reception extremely helpful. No lift, so higher floors can be a problem with heavy luggage. Excellent price (around 70 MYR for room for 4, I seem to remember, around £15 Sterling). Vital note - well-priced choice of excellent cold beer, cheap breakfasts and snacks. Has a nice local feel to it, and the street in which it is based has a good mixture of shops and eateries.
Its free wi-fi worked perfectly and connectioins were quick.
People knock Mersing as a "passing through" place, but it is a thoroughly pleasant and vibrant Malaysian town.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. This place didn't even get a mention in the "Rough Guide" yet a local friend chose this for us as the best value in town, and I agree with his judgement. Steve Riches, Northampton, UK.

“Basic Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2010

We stayed for two nights in the Embassy Hotel in Mersing. It's nice but basic. We would recommend it for backpackers or midrange travellers. They offer aircon and fan rooms. We had a aircon room with TV and attached bathroom, the price was 55 MYR per night. The rooms are really big and clean, the bed is comfortable and you have a good sleep. The only negative point to mention is, if you have a room facing the street than you have some noises, but just slightly. The location is really good, you walk for about 10 minutes to the pier and about 5 minutes to the busstation. Shops and restaurants are just in the front of the building. The Embassy Hotel has a little restaurant and they serve drinks and breakfast. There is free wi-fi available. The stuff was really friendly and helpful.
