“A Pleasant Stay for 2 nights on safari.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We stayed here for the first 2 nights on safari.

Our room was very large with 2 double beds and large bathroom. There was also a nice terrace outside the room where you could sit and relax.

The first night we stayed the lodge was virtually empty. There was our group of 5 staying plus only about another 10 guests at most. The second night I would say the place was virtually full. However the standard of service we received both days was excellent. Dinner and breakfast were both good with plenty of choice.

There was a large bar near the restaurant to relax in and have a drink before dinner. We also walked down to the Hemmingway both evening to watch the hyaenas. On both evenings we were almost the only people there.

There is a nice size pool which we used one afternoon. Again no-one else was there. The pool attendent came and cleaned the pool for us just before our swim which was great. He then brought us drinks up to the pool (as the pool bar was closed).

We thoroughly enjoed our stay here and would happily stay here again.

“Lovely quiet lodge”

Well hidden in trees with Mt Kilimanjaro as a background - amazingly clear of cloud in the early morning. Quite a small hotel but liked the ambiance. Strong Masai influence with a Masai shop on site and Sam the huge Masai welcomer. Bedrooms in individual round huts along flower lined paths. Very big bedrooms, shower room with toiletries provided, and seating outside the hut. Big bed with mosquito net, and room safe. Teas and coffees always available in the main lounge. Lots of monkeys and an impala in the grounds. Buffet style meals all very good. Wild animals fed late at night below the Hemingway bar, where you could look out beyond the trees to miles and miles of savannah. Staff service excellent. Had some wonderful game viewing and close encounters with elephants.

“Great Spot, Lovely Staff and Awesome View of Mt Kilimanjaro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Spent three nights here with friends, the staff are quite friendly. I quite enjoyed 3 days of no TV and very limited access to gizmos, their conservation of power helps one explore the park and really unwind. They do provide power three times a day for those who may need to charge electronics.

I was hesitant when we realised that we weren't in the Amboseli KWS park per se, but in the end it was more effective cost wise as we only went into the park for a day of safari tour. So basically we saved two days of park fees by staying close by...the Hemingway bar is a great spot to have a drink and they feed animals each night so there is a chance of spotting something in the evenings...the impish monkeys are all over the place but not too much of a nuisance. The restaurant has a great view of Mt Kilimanjaro when its not covered in cloud...

When you do go on safari to the KWS Park, Sopa lodge have a campsite for lunch...basic but clean toilets there and drinks are always cool and food fresh....I believe they can arrange for a packed lunch if guests prefer....

The pool is interesting in design - not made of the usual tiles but from mazeras stone, I liked it and it was pretty good having a refreshing swim after a hot day looking for wildlife...they have a sauna which can be used when the power is on....

The staff bid their guests goodbye by surprising them with a cake for desert and traditional songs on the guest's last night - we thought that was a nice touch...

“AN AMAZING VIEW”

Our room was small, but the view of Mt. Kilimanjaro more than made up for that. Enjoyed the monkeys looking into our windows. The walk to the lodge was very pretty with foliage, monkeys and grazing animals near by. The dining room offers a wonderful view of the mountain. My birthday was made special by the staff singing a wonderful rendition of Happy Birthday in Swahili. The swimming pool was in a spectacular setting, my best picture of Kilimanjaro was taken from this spot. The Maasai dancing and the animal feeding was entertaining. The animal drives from this lodge are filled with great elephant and hippo viewing. Will never forget this lodge.

“A+ Lodge in Amboseli!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

On an 8-day Safari in Kenya, Sopa Amboseli was our last lodge and by reading reviews of the lodge prior to arrival, we were excited for the visit. As we arrived to the lodge, through the dry and dusty road, we arrived to a driveway with beautiful flowers and greenery. We were happy to arrive and were every bit pleased with everything Sopa Amboseli had to offer!

The dining room was beautifully decorated and was adorned with windows facing the bush and mountains. We requested a table next to the windows and were seated immediately as it was an hour or so after the lunch hour rush, so the dining room only had only a few occupied tables. There was a large assortment of food and beverages and it all tasted quite good. The staff was kind in every way!

The rooms at Sopa Amboseli were spacious, clean and quiet. There was more than enough space for our things and only being 2 travelers we had lots of room to spread our things. The toilet and showers were clean and we were even provided with towels and soap.

One morning we got up in hope to see the sunrise over Mt. Kilimanjaro. We rose at about 5:00 a.m. and talked to the dining area/ lawn. We watched the sunrise uncover the mountain! We spent about 30 minutes watching, as the viewing of the mountain is a process and it is lighted by the sun and after about 40 minutes is completed covered by clouds again. This was a highlight of our trip. We took 30-40 photos just of this sunrise over Mt. Kilimanjaro! Don’t miss this!

The lodge is situated very close to the Amboseli National Park. The park offers amazing animal viewing. We saw over 50 elephants, hyenas, 5 lions, countless giraffes and many others. One day of animals viewing was plenty to see all the wildlife!

Great Lodge for Safari go-ers!

Room Tip: Request a table near the windows for dinner.
