2 week stay in this hotel in February 2012. I really liked it. They have thought about convenience rather than gimmicks. Decor is modern and fresh, everything works. Staff are helpful and friendly without being overbearing. Nice touches like a range of power sockets at the desk in the room (including UK, US and even USB power ports) so you don't need a load of adapters. Free and unlimited wi-fi with enough bandwidth to download or stream movies, music etc. When you factor this in, along with breakfast (which is often charged at a very high extra price in other hotels), it compares favourably to the competition, and the place is understated enough that I have not developed cabin-fever during my 2 week stay.Room has a large safe, plenty of wardrobe space, adequately stocked mini-bar (again, prices are reasonable by comparison - a 0.5L beer from the minibar costs USD 2.70), complimentary water delivered frequently.
Breakfast is a bit limited if you are here for a long stay, but if you just want to fuel up before heading out for the day is more than adequate - lots of fresh bread and pastries, choice of eggs cooked to order.
Room service can be a bit slow, and choice a bit limited, but good value.
Comfortable beds, great shower.
Very small fitness room with runner, cross trainer and 'Kinesis' machine - it's no health spa, but it's good to have.
Location is very convenient for both town centre and business district.
Almaty is not a cheap city. In this context, this hotel is good value, especially as it doesn't make you feel you are being ripped off for extras (wi-fi, room service, minibar etc). The only price for 'extras' I have baulked at is the laundry service (USD 16 to wash and press a shirt!).
While their prices remain this competitive, I would strongly recommend this hotel. Let's hope they don't get lazy and use their success to become yet another overpriced business hotel.
