Very nice to stay. Only weakness is off site parking.
The only thing I would fault them on was breakfast. This was not a buffet but a two option western or Japaneze. The later I suspect was good but the former was basic. Free refills of coffee didn't flow unless you made a concerted effort. As for free toast, that would have been good but I didn't push my luck.
Essentially it is a business hotel so most people don't linger at breakfast, it's not encouraged. Seating is restricted. There is a Japanese breakfast area at the back of the hotel, did't try that.
As pointed out by another reviewer car arrival is at the rear. I used gps and navigate fine. I've put the hotel's private car park arrangement on openstreetmap it's opposite a school to the east. So you park up behind the hotel, drop bags off then drive to their private stacking garage -is a charge.
The room was fine, bed good, toiletry items good, staff helpful, WiFi good, just the western breakfast poor, coffee weak.
We stayed there for 2 days to visit Kochi and the area.
Location is very good (entrance in a shopping arcade). Rooms are clean and comfy. A very good place to stay.
You should try the common roof-top open-air bath (men only I guess): this is ideal to relax after a long visit day.
We stayed in a standard, non-smoking twin room. This was noticeable slightly larger than some of the other business hotels we stayed in, but still not a large room - few in Japan are. The Richmond chain seems to be a step above the commonly found business hotel chains, and offered a few more frills such as a selection of free toiletries for ladies and a better/bigger choice of drinks with the electric water boiler. Enough reception staff speak enough English to be able to answer standard queries and one of the female receptionists speaks fluent English as she studied in the USA.
The hotel is located in the middle of a pedestrianised, covered shopping arcade. We arrived by car and had to guess (we got it right, fortunately) how to get to the back of the hotel by car with the one way system to drop off the bags. The hotel has a parking arrangement at a nearby parking structure with a discounted overnight rate. If you arrive by train to the JR station, it is quite a distance, so you would probably need to take a tram or taxi.
The hotel is fairly new and the whole hotel seems modern, clean, fresh and efficiently designed - which is normal for Japan, of course. Our beds were a good size and very firm (which was good to us).
The hotel is very close to the main department store of Kochi, is right in the middle of the main shopping area and very close to the major intersection at Harimaribashi. It is also in walking distance of the castle and the few old buildings along the river that are left. The main restaurant quarter is only about 3 blocks away.
Kochi itself is not a very exciting city, but seems to be the gateway to several beach resorts on Shikoku facing the Sea of Japan and the Pacific.
Everything looked brand new. The room isn't that big, but there is a big bed (for a single traveler). Fridge to use as you like, pants press, dressing gown, hair dryer etc...Fast, free LAN connection.
Excellent location in the middle of downtown, but not noisy at all.
Paid 5,500 yen via Rakuten Travel. Very good deal in my book.
