We arrived late into Kochi without anywhere to stay and saw the giant sign advertising rooms at the Sun Atlas for 3900yen. We had been backpacking and were looking for hostels more than hotels but decided due to the hour and good price (most hotels we had seen elsewhere had been around 6000-8000 yen) we would just head here for the night. We found out the price included breakfast which was a nice surprise.
The staff spoke good english, took our details quickly and showed us up to our single rooms. The rooms were fine with en-suite bathroom, single beds, TV, wifi, etc. Breakfast the next morning was in a canteen-style room downstairs and was nice enough, especially as we weren't expecting it in the price.
We are going back to Kochi for 3 days this year and in all likelyhood will stay here again. Even though we prefer hostels this is a good base to go from. The price is right and even when backpacking, the chance at a private room/shower is sometimes welcome.
