We have just spent 4 days with our young family staying at Rakutenya on Ishigaki. Despite Rakutenya being a conglomoration of 4 old buildings we found the history of the buildings fascinating. The couple who run Rakutenya are absolutely lovely, helpful and full of information about many things especially the history of the Yaeyama Islands. The lovely lady went out of her way helping us and making us feel at home. The location of Rakutenya is perfect - only about 50 metres to the shops and about 500metres to the ferry terminal. We really miss our time at Rakutenya and will definitely go back in the future.

“Friendly helpful and perfectly located”

The people were friendly and helpful and we had a nice stay. The walls between rooms could be thicker and let through the sound, but hey this is Japan and this was a fantastic location. I would stay here again.

Loved it !


Room is not very big and aircond is 100 yen per hour, but the atmosphere is good. Internet is free to use. Toilets and showers are quite old, but new ones exists in next door accomodation. But above all : owners are so kind and helpfull !!!
