“Very comfortable and priced right”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2011

The rooms are fairly western-style, meaning not huge but much larger than what you typically expect to see in Japan, and very comfortable. I did not feel cramped at all, and the bed was not overly hard, contrary to custom in Asian hotels. I was happy to see that there were plenty of good quality toiletries available from the front as I had forgotten some items.
Wifi was fast and free. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful, with most of them fluent in both Japanese and English.
There were well-stocked vending machines on my floor, as well as coin-operated laundry.
The Chisun Grand is walking distance to Sasebo Central train & bus stations, and their is a family mart about 2 blocks away. The main shopping mall in Sasebo is around a mile away (a nice long walk or short cab ride). The lobby is very nice and pleasant to look at. If given the opportunity, I'd gladly stay here again.

Room Tip: Family Mart is 2 blocks away, just past the Pachinko place. It has lots of snacks and supplies that...

“Chisun”

This hotel was very clean. The style was a little older. The doors has not been updated to key cards, but still used keys. Nonetheless, the hotel was great. We had a wonderful time and I would definitely stay there again. Not to mention, the rooms were more American size then the other Japanese hotels we stayed in.

“Huge Rooms (by Japanese Standards)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 May 2010

Blown away by huge room size -- nothing spectacular by western standards, but after getting used to the small (if not cramped) size of most Japanese hotels, I was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of Chisun Grand Sasebo.

Location very central (although tucked away on a quiet side street, it was only a block away from main shopping arcade, restaurants, bars -- close to Sasebo US Navy Base) . Breakfast at hotel excellent. Mattress comfortable.

Negatives -- rooms interiors were fairly outdated -- especially the furniture.

“stains on carpet, furniture worn out, black marks on walls from luggage”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2009

The staff are helpful in this place. The big problem is that the hotel rooms are worn out and are not maintained.

I moved out of one room on the 5th floor because the sink had a crack in it, the carpeting had big stains all over it by the desk and the was so worn out that you could see the foam padding through the holes in the fabric.

Now I am writing this review here on the 7th floor in the new room they transferred me to. They moved my luggage up here while I was working during the day today. Guess what? This room is almost as bad as the one on the 5th floor. The chairs are really worn out. You can see the foam padding through the fabric! The chair at the desk is the worst with rips in the fabric a couple of inches long. The chair next to the bed has a quarter sized hole in the top. The other problem with this room here on the 7th floor is that the toilet keeps making noises. It sounds like a water fountain running in the bathroom all the time. I guess I'll just sleep with the bathroom door closed tonight.

On the positive side I would say that the bathroom is clean and has a good powerful shower. Also, I like the firm bed. Next time I'm here on business I'll stay at a different hotel.
