I used this hotel twice in November: the room is small but practical and extremely clean. Although the bathroom is small, you are welcome to use their large public bath to stretch yourself after a long day or flight. Their breakfast is just amazing considering how much you pay for the room, professional service and location. If I see anybody complaining about this hotel, then I only assume that the person is from nearby hotel. They have laundry area, too, so it is good for longer-term lodging. I want to come back to have their breakfast again.

Stayed at Hotel Active for about week, doing day trips around Kyushu. The location is really convenient, just a few blocks and a quick walk from JR Hakata City/Hakata Station. Lots of convenience stores nearby, City Canal – a shopping complex – is also pretty close.

The hotel itself is new, clean and generally spotless. The staff speaks ok English with Japanese standards, though I had a misunderstanding occur when I tried to extend my stay. No big deal. Breakfast is included though I never tried it. Using the washer/dryer combo machines is free, and there's no need to bring your own detergent and softener. Coffee machines and kettles are available next to the elevators on each floor.

Rooms are small but thanks to a clever layout they do work really well despite their size. Lots of smart details, such as a bedside, multi-brand cell phone charger cable (supports iPhones too) and a fridge. The best thing by far though is the onsen/hotspring bath available most hours of the day. It's small, sure, but classy, ambiance is great and the bath was not very crowded when I was there.

Oh, and make sure you go up to the JR Hakata City rooftop. Great views of downtown Fukuoka, especially at night.

Hotel Active is a small boutique hotel which is about 8 - 10 mins walk from Hakata train station. I paid 8,000 JPY for a double room which included buffet breakfast and free use of onsen and the washing machine. I like this hotel because there are three 24-hour convenient stores nearby and the surrounding area is not as crowded as Tenjin district. The hotel staff are very friendly and the room is clean. Just that I faced some problems when I tried to book the room via their hotel website. In the end, I got to call the hotel to make the room reservation.

If you are thinking of staying at Hakata, I definitely recommend you to choose this hotel. The location is near JR Hakata station. I had only a 10-minute walk from the station. My room was a very small, but it has a high quality bed, huge LCD TV, work desk, free cable internet, fridge, huge bath tub, toilet, and humidifier. Room rates included breakfast. Over 50 menus included western style as well as Japanese breakfast. The taste was wonderful. They have a complimentary good and modern public bath in the 1st floor, opened until 2am. It reopens at 5am. 5 washer and dryer were on site. Those were new model of D/W. Also, I could use those free of charge with no detergent. Room rates are very reasonable and satisfying me. I won't stay at any big name exclusive international hotels in Fukuoka.
